Momentum appears to be building for a national shutdown to confront the coronavirus crisis, raising the prospect that President Trump could issue an order requiring people to stay at home.
Such an order would be unprecedented in American history, but some of Trump's top advisors have said publicly they would be open to it. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said Sunday he had raised the prospect of such a dramatic step with the administration.
“I think we should really be overly aggressive and get criticized for overreacting,” Fauci said Sunday on NBC's Meet The Press. “I think Americans should be prepared that they're going to have to hunker down significantly more than we as a country are doing.”
More and more states and cities on Friday were taking drastic steps to stop the spread of the coronavirus, which has infected more than 14,000 Americans.
Even some who have been outspoken critics of the Trump administration say faster action must be taken to avoid a catastrophe on the level that Italy faces today.
“We are 2 weeks behind Italy,” Ezekiel Emanuel, a former top Obama administration official now at the University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton School, said Friday on MSNBC. “I am a little curious why the task force and the president have not made this a mandate nationwide. Not the lockdown but a mandate for all the states and to close restaurants and do the other things. It seems to me they are being slow on this.”

I as many others suspect it is a bio-weapon. Leaked either by accident or intentionally. It has a long contagion time with no symptoms, its very contagious and it overwhelms the target's country health care system and wrecks their economy. Imagine if this happened during a shooting war. It would be a perfect bio-weapon. But that's just speculation and its probably just a coincidence.

Yea, at this point, we can either have a healthcare system, or we can have something resembling a ‘normal’ economy. But we cannot have both - one will be destroyed.
So far, every country that has reached this point has chosen to save their healthcare system - but the FluBros would rather have the economy (stock market losses, maybe?).

There are some states that have very few cases. I don’t know why you’d shut down those states. Why not just restrict travel to those states?

Nasty restrictions on the populace can take place legally. Such as suspending the right to freely assemble. Restrictions on travel, curfews and the suspension of habis corpse.

yes older people and those already compromised in some way should be the ones quarantining and the rest of the country needs to be at work while taking certain precautions. My Mother is a Liver Transplant recipient and separating as much as possible but she thinks this nationwide shutdown is madness and will destroy countless Americans through Economic ruin. I saw all over Twitter a week ago that by now thousands would be dead and Hospitals overrun. Hasn’t happened. Now Im hearing just wait another week
What will they do to people who do go out? Jail them? Fine them? All they’ll have to say is “I/we’re homeless” and they’ll be left alone.
