Momentum appears to be building for a national shutdown to confront the coronavirus crisis, raising the prospect that President Trump could issue an order requiring people to stay at home.
Such an order would be unprecedented in American history, but some of Trump's top advisors have said publicly they would be open to it. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said Sunday he had raised the prospect of such a dramatic step with the administration.
“I think we should really be overly aggressive and get criticized for overreacting,” Fauci said Sunday on NBC's Meet The Press. “I think Americans should be prepared that they're going to have to hunker down significantly more than we as a country are doing.”
More and more states and cities on Friday were taking drastic steps to stop the spread of the coronavirus, which has infected more than 14,000 Americans.
Even some who have been outspoken critics of the Trump administration say faster action must be taken to avoid a catastrophe on the level that Italy faces today.
“We are 2 weeks behind Italy,” Ezekiel Emanuel, a former top Obama administration official now at the University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton School, said Friday on MSNBC. “I am a little curious why the task force and the president have not made this a mandate nationwide. Not the lockdown but a mandate for all the states and to close restaurants and do the other things. It seems to me they are being slow on this.”

LOL. And you know what is “going on behind the scenes”? No nationwide shut down. Each state and county is different. The NY and CA lockdowns are political. Two governors with future WH aspirations are grandstanding to showcase their leadership skills. They are closing the barn doors after the horses have left. They are also hyping a manufactured crisis.
If it is true we are two weeks behind Italy, then Trumps 15 days to slow the virus makes sense. And by the end of next week we will clearly know what our nations death curve is.

The President artfully prevented this shifting of blame today when asked about this by saying that the local governments had a better handle on how severe the lockdown should be, with different areas of the country deciding how to handle things based on local conditions.

Try having healthcare without a prosperous economy. You create a false dichotomy.
The current hysteria will destroy the economy which will ultimately degrade our healthcare as it is take over by the government. Then you can parrot progressive beliefs or die.
I am 2x at risk and I say let the at risk voluntarily quarantine themselves and let everyone get on with getting infected and getting on with life. Remember today’s virus response is to slow the spread not stop the spread.

Fauci needs to shut the hell up! I am so sad seeing Trump being used like a marionette while deep staters hold the strings. That’s not him, and I don’t think he’ll tolerate it much longer.
3.11M sq miles of land in CONUS, approx. Enforcement is nigh impossible. Local law enforcement wants to go home at night and not infect their family.
I’m hearing anecdotal reports from California that people are openly flouting the “shelter in place” order and are just out and about.
Getting a grip on yourself would be advisable.
