Could Trump declare national coronavirus shutdown? Momentum is rising
The Hill ^ | 03 20 2020 | Reid Wilson

Momentum appears to be building for a national shutdown to confront the coronavirus crisis, raising the prospect that President Trump could issue an order requiring people to stay at home.

Such an order would be unprecedented in American history, but some of Trump's top advisors have said publicly they would be open to it. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said Sunday he had raised the prospect of such a dramatic step with the administration.

“I think we should really be overly aggressive and get criticized for overreacting,” Fauci said Sunday on NBC's Meet The Press. “I think Americans should be prepared that they're going to have to hunker down significantly more than we as a country are doing.”

More and more states and cities on Friday were taking drastic steps to stop the spread of the coronavirus, which has infected more than 14,000 Americans.

Even some who have been outspoken critics of the Trump administration say faster action must be taken to avoid a catastrophe on the level that Italy faces today.

“We are 2 weeks behind Italy,” Ezekiel Emanuel, a former top Obama administration official now at the University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton School, said Friday on MSNBC. “I am a little curious why the task force and the president have not made this a mandate nationwide. Not the lockdown but a mandate for all the states and to close restaurants and do the other things. It seems to me they are being slow on this.”

We may be 2 weeks behind Italy, but we are also NOT ITALY! Cookie cutter solutions do not work in these situations.

No we aren't Italy but we have to try and eliminate as much virus as possible. There will be infection here for years possibly and we have to cut down the numbers drastically in the name of national security. We are vulnerable if we are hobbled by a virus.

I see the public buses are still running.

Here too. Empty or one person riding, as usual.

Trump needs to make it clear that this is America — it’s a free country and an open society. We can’t just shut down the whole country for weeks at a time. There have to be other solutions and we expect our civil servants to come up with them. If they can’t they should be fired and others hired who can.

That is disturbing. We are walking a very fine line between trading perceived safety for literal tyranny.

“Its a virus the Red Chinese were messing with in their Bio weapons lab and it got loose.
In that, there is no doubt at all anymore.”

No doubt means hard evidence.

And that is...?

“Is this really necessary when most states are effectively shut down anyway? What is the reasoning?”

My guess is that it’s “most states” that is their concern. Since they feel that a reduction in interpersonal contact can be beneficial, further reduction would be better still. And of course maybe they don’t believe it’s a problem at all and their motives are 100% sinister.

You completely ignored my point. I never said “no precautions”. What I said is that what what works in Italy may not necessarily work here. Be cognizant of the fact that insidious forces are using this situation to cause America great harm. And then use that as a filter to try to understand some of these liberal operatives like Dr. Emmanuel.

So far, every country that has reached this point has chosen to save their healthcare system

Except South Korea which has done both. So you're wrong.

Nasty restrictions on the populace can take place legally. Such as suspending the right to freely assemble. Restrictions on travel, curfews and the suspension of habis corpse.

When was the last time Habeas Corpus was suspended?

I have had the same questions. If this thing’s as serious as they say, current quarantine measure (with their many attendant holes) are grossly inadequate. If it’s not as serious as they say, they’re probably overdone already.

I really dont give a rats ass what you think. But here is a very valid hint for you if you decide you want to see any more proof, then get your backside over to China and find out.

From the article in the link I posted. But you arent interested in that are you?

“evidence emerged suggesting that this is exactly what happened, as the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology released a new directive titled: “Instructions on strengthening biosecurity management in microbiology labs that handle advanced viruses like the novel coronavirus.”

Read that again. It sure sounds like China has a problem keeping dangerous pathogens in test tubes where they belong, doesn’t it? And just how many “microbiology labs” are there in China that handle “advanced viruses like the novel coronavirus”?

It turns out that in all of China, there is only one. And this one is located in the Chinese city of Wuhan that just happens to be … the epicenter of the epidemic.”

The number of cases is rising at a rate that will overwhelm medical services and later could overwhelm other essential services if not slowed.

At least, that what Trump is being told. He’s has no medical experience.

The rat Governors are trying to force Trump to do this and finish crushing the economy. If he does not and the virus grows (which it will) the MSM will crucify him and if he does the economy will be ruins then MSM will make every effort to give him the blame. This is the trap that has taken three years to set.

I think they want him to do this shut every thing down to obliterate the economy. The only way Biden could win is if the economy is really really really bad. I dislike Biden and Obama and all of those democrats if they asked me for recommendations I would not give them any that would be helpful they are the enemy. So why should I believe that they are trying to help Trump by telling him what he should do.

Let the Governors off their states work it out which they are doing already.
