There has been no love lost with Trump and CEO Mary Barra. He blasted her good when she was shutting down / shipping out car production. I guess she thought she could fluck with PDT. As Pacino once said "Look at you now" Mary.

Even better when Piglosi chimes in with outrage he can tell here to STFU after just a couple days ago she was screaming for PDT use the Defense Production act.

If I understood Trump correctly, it was more like 8,000.

GM just found out Barack Obama is no longer president.

The issue apparently was that GM didn't think they could meet the quotas that were being set. By the time you could actually issue the order and get the right people and materials on all the various sites to force production, I'm very skeptical that anything would be sped up appreciably.

Or to put it differently, I don't see any real incentive for GM to be deliberately dragging its feet on ventilators, especially since Ford already committed. It's just a terrible look for them.

Something I read a while back.

Ford has sold one F-series truck every minute for the last 34 years. Except 2017 when they sold 1.5 every minute.

No. That’s a speculative danger. There’s no debating the reality of the biological - viral - enemy that’s besieging us, and our economy, now.

I don't think giving the federal government too much power is a "speculative" danger, and I hardly think it is speculative to assume that Democrats will abuse that power in the future. In fact, it's pretty much a guarantee.

Again, the wasn't a truly pressing need for this. I doubt that order is going to increase GM's speed of production at all.

I was talking about global warming. It’s a speculative threat. The virus’s theat to our health - and frankly to whether our economy will survive - is real, and justifies strong , ever war-power , federal action. If the economy literally shuts down and leaves tens of millions impoverished, I can’t think of worse that a foreign enemy could do to us.

GM still owes us about $30 Billion that Nancy and Harry gave them BEFORE they declared bankruptcy (and it just disappeared) and then they didn’t have to pay taxes on the profits they made with all of their costs written off.

Of all the companies Trump can tell what to do and they need to do it, they are very high on the list.

Auto companies shouldn’t get any of the $2 Trillion in Wuhandouts.

People not spending money on Travel/cruises for next 3 years are going to buy new cars with the extra cash especially with zero interest loans.

Yes, but they’ll start sooner. Time is of the essence.

That said, perhaps the DPA needs some additional language to address immediacy of threats if invoked for non-defense (in the military sense) events. Gotta be careful, tho’. Is, say, an incoming asteroid, 2 years out, a “military” threat, even if the idea is to splash it using partially military assets while far enough away (say, 50 days distant) for that to work?

I’ll also add that President Trump CANNOT allow himself to be seen as haggling with GM in this situation.
