If you can possibly avoid it don’t walk under tall big city buildings, but if you must then walk on the curb or street.
I agree, but it is more than the health concern and fear of getting hassled for walking too close to people that causes added stress. There is also the fear of the government lying to us, and the government itself being the cause of the downtown. This didn’t exist in other downturns.
In the 2007 downtown, greed on the part of banks could be blamed. In the 70’s, the Arab states could be blamed. In the Great Depression, banks and speculators could be blamed.
(I am not saying the blame was appropriate, BTW; it was just commonly assumed certain entities were to blame.)
Now people have to wonder if the powers that be are exaggerating the threat for their own aims or if there was a deliberate bio attack they are not telling us about.
Some people simply look for an excuse to kill themselves. In 1910 some people committed suicide rather than be “gassed” by Haley’s Comet. Nothing happened.
In 1939, someone took poison rather than die at the hands of the Martians during hearing Orson Wells broadcast of “The War of the Worlds”.
Yale presented a paper to the UN on this very thing.
