Trump officials eye blocking uranium from Russia, China to help U.S. nuclear industry

Trump administration officials on Thursday recommended granting U.S. energy regulators the ability to block imports of nuclear fuel from Russia and China and detailed plans for setting up a government stockpile of uranium sourced from domestic miners.

The recommendations are meant to address growing concern in Washington that the United States has ceded its global leadership in nuclear technology in recent decades, and to boost domestic nuclear power producers and uranium miners suffering from a lack of investment.

Energy Secretary Dan Brouillette told reporters on a call that the report from the Nuclear Fuel Working Group was a “road map for what we think needs to be done to not only revitalize but re-establish American leadership in this entire industry.”

President Donald Trump created the working group last July after rejecting a request by two U.S. uranium mining companies, Energy Fuels Inc [UUUU.A] and Ur-Energy Inc [URG.A], seeking quotas for domestic uranium production to protect them against foreign competition.

The report recommended enabling the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to deny imports of certain uranium supplies from Russia and China for national security purposes.

Do the Uranium One mines in the US count as American or Russian after Hillary got a big donation in her “charitable” foundation and approved their sale as Secretary of State?

I am of the opinion that the US needs to be investing in Thorium reactors.

Ha haaaaa! EXCELLENT question. I wonder if the Clintons continue to receive a spiff off of those sales.

The wailing and gnashing of teeth should provide a clue.

This could be President Dr. Trump's best troll yet.

"growing concern in Washington that the United States has ceded its global leadership in nuclear technology in recent decades"

Yes indeed— what should be done is that all the uranium ore that is in that “russian” mine— be stopped from shipment to the refiner, who is in Canada, and is called Uranium One. Uranium One is a wholly Russian owned Canadian refiner— owned by the Russian Oligarch (Putin, large stake owner) Rosatom.

A final “gift” from obamaumao, which the Clintons also cashed in on-— was the transfer of US owned (?) uranium to Iran from Russia!! in obamaumao’s “iran deal” Searching for evidence that Russia sent the uranium to Iran-— don’t know, but clearly shows why the Russians were supporting Hillary not “colluding” to help Trump. Trump stopped the Iran Deal:

I agree, but I think we should be encouraging research in all new nuclear power technologies and thorium does look promising. Many honest environmentalist are now admitting that nuclear power is the best option for clean energy.

I was hoping that Trump would push this hard when he came into office as the benefits are endless, but we have not heard much and private companies are afraid of the technology due to the hysteria it still creates. The nuclear power that we have is still based on 1970’s technology with only a few upgrades.

Uhhh, maybe voiding that uranium 1 giveaway would be a good start. If the Left was any more corrupt, we’d all glow in the dark. from nukes made in China and Russia.
