Did you happen to miss the fact we have close to real-time telemetry photographs from Mars? Or that we have high res photos of Pluto, the planet that isn't? Data and telemetry from Saturn?

Those are in the last 3 years but you're bah humbug because we're not flying the Enterprise into low Earth Orbit and flying back out without damaging anything.

If you have some genius ideas, call the President and tell him you know how to have the Shuttle working to dock with the space station and return safely without loss of life and craft. I'm sure NASA, Boeing, Space X et al would love your input on how to make things work the first time, without exhaustive testing and have it work perfectly every single time.

“60 years and we’re back to a cramped little capsule stuck on top of a rocket.”

Not hardly. The capsule is 12 foot across and about 20 foot long. Has seven seating arrangements.

Dumping water on the launch pad to keep it from being burned up.

Anyone hear the ‘roger beep’ in communications? Haven’t heard that one since Apollo.

I’m so glad that we’re no longer dependent on the Russians for access to the ISS, that was embarrassing.

Cool to the tenth power, dear lady. It was far past time for America to retake it’s place as the leader of space science and exploration after too many years of stagnation thanks to wuss politicians steering those funds to welfare for the useless and non-contributing. Well, they contribute votes to the evil Godless party.

It’s wild seeing what they wear now, just like a Netflix sci-fi flick. The space shuttle guys weighed literally 300 lbs with their gear that they wore for launch. That was early 70s design and not much different from the 60s design. Material science has come a long way.

After splashdown, the explosive hatch on Gus Grissom’s Mercury capsule blew off before the recovery helicopters could arrive, so the capsule got water-logged and sank.

Grissom was blamed though he claimed he did nothing; in support Scott Carpenter deliberately blew the hatch on his capsule after recovery, winding up with a big bruise on his hand - which the astronauts claimed was proof Gus had done nothing wrong.

It’s interesting that afterwards NASA quietly got rid of any explosive hatches on the Apollo capsules.

When the capsule was recovered 50 years later, it was proven that Gus didn’t do anything wrong.

The real video images from the moon are stunning and very good. NASA chose a format the the tv networks couldn’t support so they put a camera on a monitor and broadcast that, generating the crappy images. Unfortunately most of the tapes were reused or lost.

Musk has got a great sense of humor. Like when a feed cut out, the screen says “I still love you”. He’s pretty funny in interviews too when he’s relaxed.

Just checking out Bob and Doug on wikipedia. Both their wives are also astronauts. Both couples each have one son, presumably very intelligent boys.
