Wasn't an insurrection, and slavery didn't need to be defended in the USA of 1860. It was legal and would have remained legal in the USA but for the war.
We will soon see statues erected to police officer murderers ???
Hands off all statues.
No mob rule. And no more trying to appease the howling mob by feeding it the “bad” statues, “bad” books, “bad” base names, “bad” movies, etc.
Stand up to the mob.

But it does say a lot when Trotskyites are more respectful of American ideals than the Democratic party.
Oh, I see.
Historical monuments shouldn’t be defaced or removed.
But, if they don’t conform to post-modern historical dogma, take ‘em down.
No, hands off ALL the monuments. Grant, Lee, Columbus, Washington, doesn’t matter. ALL THE MONUMENTS.
Except the Seattle statue of Lenin. Blow that sucker up.

The monuments should be guarded and desecrators SHOT on the spot. It’s time to re-establish the rule of law in America.

No one can object to the removal of monuments to the leaders of the Confederacy, who dedicated their lives to the rejection of the thesis that all men are created equal. These figures sought to wring their bread from the sweat of other mens faces, in the words of Lincolns second inaugural address.
This really jumps out at me. So to these authors, it’s ok to tear down statues commemorating the South or the Confederacy in the Civil War. No one can object, they claim. Their only concern is that the mob is going after people they think are deserving of honor, not the concept of mobs tearing down statues to people or causes they disagree with.
Destroying history is not al carte. If the CSA goes so to goes slavery and everything else.

On Friday, protesters in San Francisco knocked over a statue of Ulysses S. Grant, who commanded the Union to victory in the Civil War and suppressed the Ku Klux Klan during Reconstruction.
What do you expect from living Democrats?
If not shot, at least forcibly removed. And cities shouldnt be able to be intimidated and get the city council or the mayor to approve it. And De Blasio and his hideous wife should be ridden out of town on a rail for removing Jefferson and Lincoln.
Theyre scared to remove Columbus because the Italians are defending him. And Hispanics are too, because while he was Italian born, he sailed for Spain. Queen Isabella paid for his voyages.
But Americans of any background have got to start defending our statues.
“But the justifiable demand for the removal of monuments to these defenders of racial inequality ...”
It’s not that clear cut. There were motivations beyond the racial angle and there were racists and anti racists on both sides.. These are undeniable historical figures and their statues have a place anywhere the citizens welcome them. Question: How many of these toppled statues were taken down by members of the community in which they stood? Yeah, that’s what I thought.
Communism is the most degraded and murderous of systems in history. Shouldn’t all statues honoring these butchers be sent to scrap?

“...The monuments to the leaders of the seceded states were erected in a period of political reaction following the end of Reconstruction, with the aim of legitimizing the Confederacy as part of the lost cause school of historiography, which denied the revolutionary character of the American Civil War. ...”
I’ve said it before - just as the south was raising monuments post reconstruction the morth was doing the same.
Interesting that this rush to build monuments in both the north and south really picked up steam from around 1900 to 1920.
1920 was 55 years after the war. The vets were dying off in big numbers by then.
Just for reference - our country’s WW II National Memorial was dedicated May 29, 2004 - 59 years after the end of WW II
