Ammonium nitrate disasters

“On August 4, a major fire broke out in the Port of Beirut warehouse. It has spread to 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate, which had been impounded and stored for six years after it was seized from an abandoned ship in 2014.[36] It then detonated, then causing immense damage throughout the entire city. The shockwave reportedly was so intense that it was felt in Cyprus, a north-western island about 240 km (150 miles) away from Lebanon.[37] A giant orange mushroom cloud was seen following the detonation. Currently, there are at least 5,000 confirmed injuries and 135 confirmed deaths. [38][39] Up to 300,000 people have lost their homes according to Beirut’s city governor.[40]”

Unfortunately Beirut's Officials had been warned about this storage by the Port Authorities, (with 7 documentations), for years that if they didn't remove it this would be exactly what would happen......obviously those warnings were ignored. Such an unnecessary loss of life and injuries all around.

A giant orange mushroom cloud was seen following the
detonation.

There was a large orange column of smoke rising above the
detonation. I would not term it a 'mushroom cloud'.

The shock wave provided a mushroom type shape, but it was
only there for a split second or so.
