Dear Zachary,
Thank you for your thoughtful, honest email explaining why you felt frustration and anger about my public support of Donald Trump. I'm glad that you wrote as you did rather than leaving the matter unspoken.
Thank you also for writing, as a long-time friend, to express your concerns that my support of Trump might jeopardize the reputation that I have built as a trusted professor of theology and ethics for the last 43 years, and that my pro-Trump stance undermines the credibility of the label evangelical, and even of the Christian gospel itself.
I take these objections seriously. I have pondered them for several days. Please consider the following twelve points of response:
1. No consideration of policies
At the beginning of your email, you write, This email does not concern policy. The rest of the email concerns what you see as President Trumps character flaws.
But that means that your email fails to address the entire reason for my support of Trump. In every column that Ive published in support of Trump, I have explicitly registered my disapproval of his character flaws and previous immoral behavior. I support him because of the policies he has enacted and will enact, and in spite of his character flaws (which I dont think rise to a level that would disqualify him from being president; more on this below).

If history is any indicator, this person will never understand. Trying to convince someone like this is an exercise in futility.
Hopefully, Zachary will listen and change his opinion.
Excellent piece.
This letter is AMAZING. Every. Single. Word.
This is perhaps the best defense I’ve ever read encouraging Christians to vote for President Trump.
Astounding.
Wow. What a great article. It’s a keeper.
It is a long read, but worth it. I found his points pertinent and I may be able to use them when dealing with some family members.
“Letter to an Anti-Trump Christian Friend”
The title Grudem chose is wrong. A person who would not vote for Trump is not a “Christian”. Whether the person votes for Biden or writes in a candidate (who has not chance of winning), he is voting against someone — the only viable candidate — who will try to protect the unborn. Christians do not kill children.
I’ve already shared this with a couple of people .... says what I think/feel about Trump much better than I ever could.
Excellent commentary.
I’m printing this, rereading it, and sharing copies with my Christian friends.
If you say that you Love God, but hate your brother, you are a liar. This commentary highlights the priorities of Christian policy and points out the hypocrisy of supporting the democrat policies.
If you run into a church friend, who seems squishy regarding Trump, this commentary would be a good one to give to that friend.
it clearly lays out the ‘Case for Trump’ from an evangelical perspective.
It sure is.
Hopefully he will.
I doubt it. Yes, God is able. But it once again smacks of Spiritual Pride and Self Righteousness - the most deceptive of sins.
I wonder what Jesus saw in Peter when he called this bombastic, flesh-following, back-turning, cursing hothead to ‘Feed My sheep’. Probably the willingness of heart.
Yes it is a long read. I normally don’t excerpt articles from Townhall.com unless I have to according to FR rules. Articles by Victor Davis Hanson is an example.
Sounds like neither of these guys truly believe in God’s forgiveness and redemption.
,
Have they read their Bibles and seen the flawed people God has chosen to lead his people? Moses, David, Peter, for just a few.
They both sound a little “holier than thou”. One is willing to accept him because he accepts his actions as good even though he is flawed and the other can’t get over that he has shown flaws.
I’d win a billion dollar bet that those guys have character flaws of their own and could use some forgiveness and redemption.
The article is mostly written for everyone else, but his friend.
It is beautifully done.
I have already forwarded it, and I do not forward many.
God forgives your sins if you ask him to do so, but he won’t do it automatically.

(I know, I know ... I've posted this before. but the democrats haven't changed a bit, so I figure it's still current.)
Speaking of character flaws:
“These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto
him:
A proud look, (Picture Nancy Pelosi tearing up her copy of the presidents state of the union address.)
a lying tongue, (What was that Russia Collusion thing all about? Why do we call the Fake News Media the Fake News Media? [Hint: It belongs to the democrat party])
and hands that shed innocent blood, (Abortion on demand, the “right” to kill [slaughter] babies by the millions, even as they are being born or shortly after .. for convenience and taxpayer money, whether tax payers want to pay for slaughtering babies or not.)
An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, (God approves of “same-sex marriage” ... “gender fluidity” ... men aren't really men and women aren't really women. Everybody’s children should be taught in public schools that homosexual “love” is normal and that only hate-filled, phobia driven bigots would disagree.)
feet that be swift in running to mischief, (Collect yourself a crowd and run president Trump's cabinet members and conservatives out of restaurants! Let them know that they're not welcome! Ala Maxine Waters. Or just gleefully and belligerently join a rampaging mob in destruction of property and lives. You go, antifa and BLM! Tear down those cities! especially anything that has to do with law enforcement!)
A false witness that speaketh lies, (False rumors about phone calls that lead to impeachment and other lies by the gazillions because we just don't like the man. The democrats and their party owned media seem to be utterly incapable of mentioning Donald Trump's name without telly some lie about him.)
and he that soweth discord among brethren.” (political tribalism dividing the country at every opportunity for political gain and the deliberate creation of Black Lies Matter and Antifa anarchy for the express purpose of angering Americans against Americans.)
--Proverbs - 6:16-19
The democrats have absolutely no reason to complain about Donald Trump's Character, unless the problem is that they just can't stand to see a better man in the White House than anything they have to offer.
Using reason and logic with Liberals is like owning a Yugo. It wont get you anywhere. Trying to make one work is an exercise in futility.
Liberals deal only in feelings.
