On 'Fox News @ Night,' panel debates the potential Supreme Court pick's popularity with religious conservatives.
A media campaign has erupted against Amy Coney Barrett, even though President Trump hasn’t actually nominated her to the Supreme Court.
Barrett is clearly the front-runner, having spent a second straight day at the White House as the president moves toward his Saturday announcement. And of course there should be substantial scrutiny of her record if she’s picked, given that replacing Ruth Bader Ginsburg is a lifetime appointment.
But there are early signs this is going to be ugly, and that her religion will be front and center. That subject came up in 2017 when the Senate approved her as a federal appeals court judge in Chicago.
Newsweek jumped on the judge with a smear that turned out to be factually wrong.
Barrett is a devout Catholic, and the magazine described her (as previous profiles have) as a member of People of Praise, “the charismatic Christian parachurch organization, which was founded in South Bend, Indiana in 1971, teaches that men have authority over their wives. Members swear a lifelong oath of loyalty to one another and are expected to donate at least 5 percent of their earnings to the group.”
So she should be disqualified because of her religious affiliation? Isn’t that the essence of anti-Catholic prejudice?

If you are reasonably certain you have the votes to pass your selection through to the SCOTUS, spare your selection the Kavanaugh treatment and proceed directly to the vote.

Whoever is nominated, it should go directly two up or down vote. No hearings. Nobody should have to be treated like that.

Her Catholicism isn’t issue, not that she is a mainstream Catholic. She has explicitly stated faith comes before the law as a judge. That’s not what we need on our courts. That’s not a religious test, that’s a question of whether she is a textualist or if she’ll start at her conclusion and work towards it with tortured legal justification based on her personal religious beliefs. A bigger concern is her support for lockdowns and pattern of deference to government and big businesses over individual rights.
I hope she’s ready for the mean-spirited assaults the dems are about to throw at her, and that she remembers them as she serves on the court.
As a Catholic voter I’d have to conclude sadly that most Catholic voters will still vote Dem no matter how badly she is savaged.
They never cease to disappoint me with their blind allegiance to party loyalty over all that is Biblical, decent and just.

It’s up to Linda to keep the hearings disciplined and cut the Rats off at the knees. Grassley was far too accommodating of Feinstein and her cast of Lawfare actors smearing Kavanaugh.
