No news at link, just heard this on WJNO. Variant called Omicron, not Nu. I guess another variant snuck in in the meantime?

The cause of concern so far seems to be not the severity but transmissible nature of the variant. They are worried that the virus adapted (32 mutations) to an immune-suppressed individual and what that may mean. My own opinion is that nobody knows anything.. which is why I began these threads.

So I take it you were looking forward to the ‘Xi Variant’.... perhaps we should just start calling it the ‘Xi virus’?
Likely they were concerned about confusion between “nu variant” and “new variant”.
Regardless, when its officially determined that vaccines will not treat the variant there will be a major run on HCQ and Ivermectin. They will be the only cure for the Variant. Prices and availability will go out of sight.
Good! We should have gone with Trump’s original plan and given equal focus to vaccines and therapeutics. If this is as vaccine resistant as some fear, perhaps we can start focusing on therapeutics more and stop demonizing people that advocate that approach.

You medically knowledgable Freepers help me out here. I thought that all cold and flu viruses are corona viruses. They mutate all the time, which is why I’ve always heard that you’ll build immunity and never get the same cold twice. So, are these “new strains” specifically mutations of Covid 19 or are they just regular old cold and flu corona viruses?
Remember the Plymouth Variant? Those were decent cars.
