Florida broke its single-day record for new COVID-19 cases on Thursday as the omicron variant continues to drive a surge in infections.
The state reported 31,758 cases to the Centers for Disease Control database on Thursday. The previous high was 27,669 in August when the delta variant swept the state.

Have you seen any data about MABs vs. Omicron (old antibodies, new variant)? Or is it possibly moot b/c Omicron is mild?
The raw number of cases is spiking dramatically. The number of deaths is a flat line. The number of cases is expected to rapidly decline within a relatively short time.
The number of deaths is not a flat line, but is rising much less dramatically than the number of cases. As a proportion of cases, it seems to be flat in comparison.

The threat to our health care systems remains, however, as even people who don’t die have to be taken care of. Several states are in severe trouble. This is what people need to focus on.
Even if they never get covid, they could be denied prompt treatment of something else because of the overload.
I think it’s the latter. It’s not because it’s so mild. I’m taking with my friends and colleagues across the southeast. There are empty hospitals despite the reports of high case spiking the last several weeks. By now we would be seeing people into the hospital.
Looking at the data I am increasingly optimistic that omicron is ending this thing. As of today I am not seeing a need to get to monoclonals for omicron.
