Democrats up for reelection propose suspending federal gas tax through end of 2022

Two Senate Democrats up for reelection proposed a bill on Wednesday to temporarily suspend the federal gas tax through the end of 2022, as millions of Americans grapple with the economic impacts of surging oil prices.

The Gas Prices Relief Act from Sens. Maggie Hassan, D-N.H., and Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., would suspend the $18.4 cents per gallon federal gas tax through Jan. 1, 2023, according to a summary of the proposal shared with ABC News.

The senators, who are both on the ballot in November, released the proposal at a time when gas is roughly $3.45 a gallon nationwide, about $1 more expensive than a year ago, according to AAA.

"Arizonans are paying some of the highest prices for gas we have seen in years and it's putting a strain on families who need to fill up the tank to get to work and school," Kelly said in a statement."This bill will lower gas prices by suspending the federal gas tax through the end of the year to help Arizona families struggling with high costs for everything from gas to groceries."

"We need to continue to think creatively about how we can find new ways to bring down costs, and this bill would do exactly that, making a tangible difference for workers and families," Hassan said in a statement.

At least four other Democrats, Sens. Debbie Stabenow of Michigan, Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen of Nevada, and Raphael Warnock of Georgia have already signed on as co-sponsors of the measure. (Cortez Masto and Warnock, like Hassan and Kelly, are up for reelection in the fall.)

End the Federal and STATE gas taxes. Open up areas to fracking. Start drilling again where it has been stopped due to government restrictions.

Funny how 120 years ago Great Britain figured out how to run natural gas pipelines all through out the British country side but in the “capitalist” utopia of America we can’t seem to manage to do that.

Amazing, one stupid move leads to the next. All they had to do about energy was leave it alone.

WTI oil just went above $91 a barrel.

The problem as I see it is so many folks get their news from social media and I’m sure Facebook, Twitter, Google, etc will broadcast the “truth” about why the Dems are doing this and it might work for them.

“Real Senators of Genius”

Here’s to you, pandering Democrat senators who stood idly by as Obama (oops, I meant Biden) halted meaningful oil production in this country. Now you want to reach into your bag of handouts to the people in order to get yourself re-elected.

You’re leaving in November, True Senators of Genius.

We know who you are and we see what you’re doing.

Thats almost as disingenuous as Robert Francis O’Rouke saying he wants to protect the 2nd amendment.

The problem is that a lot of NH is till rural.
So, the closest natural gas line to my house is about 3 miles away. They brought it out to the middle school and high school. It stopped there. There is also a lot of ledge around here. They don’t call it the granite state for nothing.

A couple years ago they proposed bringing another 3’
NG pipeline from PA through, NY, MA, NH and back into MA. However, the whole NIMBY effect came into play. Even though most of it would have gone through an existing ROW owned by the electric company. In my town they would have replaced the existing 1’ diameter line with a 3’ diameter line. All the stupid liberals were against it.

It is just like when all the people in northern NH were against bringing power lines south from Quebec Hydro. The people up north didn’t want it to ruin their view. NIMBY. Stupid is as stupid does.

The proper role of government is to do things that make common sense. Running NG out to the exoburbs and beyond is a total no brainer. Govt gets involed in things they shouldn’t and ignores the things they should do..

“Democrats up for reelection propose suspending federal gas tax through end of 2022”

Are they also proposing suspending federal spending funded by the gas tax, or just proposing increasing federal borrowing and deficits that help fuel inflation, which helps increase fuel prices????

Behind EVERY Dim “good intention” is economic stupidity and perverse consequences.

No, they will borrow 10x the gas tax revenue to spend elsewhere on environmental programs -they're idiots....or maybe we are the idiots.

“Two Senate Democrats up for reelection proposed a bill on Wednesday to temporarily suspend the federal gas tax through the end of 2022”

And after they’re reelected, they’ll go, “federal gas tax suspension? What federal gas tax suspension?”

Pritzger in Illinois is proposing something similar: a 2.2% reduction in the state gas tax and a 1% reduction in the tax on groceries, or some such thing.
In place for about a year, I think.
woohoo….

At the end of the aforementioned reductions, He’ll probably double or triple them…..
