Cancel culture has now reached President Abraham Lincoln, the man who wrote the Emancipation Proclamation declaring enslaved people “shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free.” Democrat Rep. Jamie Becker-Finn (DFL-Roseville) complained about Lincoln’s presence on the House floor this week during a debate on an education bill.
“We are asked to serve, we serve in this body, we have to look at President Lincoln every day we are in this space.”

It’s interesting to note that when Robert Byrd finally denounced the KKK, he did so not for moral but for political reasons: “Be sure you avoid the Ku Klux Klan. Don’t get that albatross around your neck. Once you’ve made that mistake, you inhibit your operations in the political arena.”
Byrd was a stone cold racist. But as you noted, no one on the Left has tried to cancel him. That “D” after his name must be quite magical.

My late beloved Dad was a terrific guy, a true family man, community leader, and a nationally known Square Dance caller. I.really miss him. But. He was also a dyed in the wool Union man and a staunch DFL’er. It was his only fault in my eyes. Subsequently we NEVER talked politics. The DFL is.Minnesota’s way of spelling.communism.
