West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey (R) announced a gubernatorial run on the Republican ticket Tuesday.

“I come before you with a very clear purpose. I’m seeking the Republican nomination for Governor of West Virginia,” Morrisey said in his prepared speech on Tuesday during an event with supporters in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. Morrisey has served as West Virginia’s attorney general since being elected in 2012.

“I’m the only proven conservative in this race with a deep record of fighting and winning against the political elites successfully defending our West Virginia values and accomplishing the big things West Virginians care about,” he said during his announcement while laying out some of the key issues he wants to work on, such as advance educational excellence and putting more money West Virginian’s pockets.

He’s term limited out & supposedly plans to run against Manchin. I had people tell me he wouldn’t challenge Manchin for health reasons. Looks like he is. He’s been a surprisingly good governor. I didn’t expect much given his terrible business ethics reputation. Plus his political evolution went this way; before he announced for governor he was a Republican, the switched to Rat to run, won, after Trump won in 2016 he switched back to Republican. My only criticism of his two terms is his somewhat timid COVID response. Of course he was a prime candidate for a severe COVID infection being obese, high bp,etc

Alex Mooney, being an actual proven conservative, would be by far the best option as the next Senator from West Virginia. Old Man Justice blows whichever way the wind does, and WV already has one useless RINO squish for a Senator; they don’t need two even if Justice wouldn’t be nearly as bad as Capito. He wouldn’t be great either.

Mooney is young enough that he could have a Bobby Byrd-length Senate career, which would be fantastic as long as he doesn’t slowly ooze to the left once elected as so many once-upon-a-time conservatives do.

He’s been in the House for a few terms now, and has been a solid conservative the entire way. But Justice will get the GOP establishment support and their money, which means Mooney has a serious uphill battle ahead of him.

Mooney would not be just another Mitch Bitch, but Justice probably would be (or, if Mitch finally does us a favor and dies/retires, then Thune’s bitch or Cornyn’s bitch or whoever).

My only problem with Mooney is that he’s a professional politician. I try to come up with reasons not to vote for them. He clearly came to the state to further his political career. Also note being a professional politician oozing to the left is their usual evolution. Right now, unless something drastic happens I am certainly not voting for Justice, I will somewhat reluctantly vote for Mooney.

Absolutely a carpetbagger!
His vote to pass the Harris amendment* to the anti-lynching bill and subsequent refusal to even explain that vote told me he’s just another POLITICIAN!!!!

*...The ammendment made even speaking ill of mooselimbs a federal offense.

PS.....Mooney was, and now continues to be my representative!

PPS.....Morrisy was AG when WV went permitless carry
