Enjoy your rubble Vlad. You’re going to have to rebuild Bakhmut the same way you rebuilt Mariupol.

They’ve been saying that for like 6 months.

doubtful. They may have taken the city center, but all sides are basically saying 10-15K Ukraine troops still in the western parts of the city

No, it’s not the Ukrainian lynch pin in the East. It’s a strategically worthless mining town out in the boonies.

I thought they said that several days ago. At this point it’s just a bunch of muddy bomb craters so no great victory for Russia. The reason the Ukrainians were resisting at Bakmut was that the Russians were sacrificing 2.5 of their own for every Ukrainian casualty. The trade was seen as a positive by the Ukrainian commanders.

Ever since the Maidan coup of 2014, NATO plus US money built up the largest land army in Europe (well maybe #2 to Turkey)
8 years installing robust fighting positions and defenses.

Then, a para-military group named Wagner kicked their ass and is well on its way to destroy the NATO (Uke) army.

Then, to de-Nazify these lawless border lands

It does appear that the Russians made significant gains the past two days and now control most of the city east of the railway.

The speed of Russian advance the past 48 or so hours suggests the Ukrainians are at least falling back to a new defensive line west of the railway.

Meanwhile, the destruction of USA society proceeds as planned.

But by all means, lets focus on the shiny bauble in Ukraine. /spit

It's not a lynchpin of the whole defensive line. The UA has simply defended it because it has enabled them to kill far more Russians than their equivalent losses. Last I checked, the Ukrainians were still holding the western part of the city behind the rail lines. The Russians have probably taken the city center after 8 months, but they have reported Bakhmut as taken several times already.

Both sides have been attempting a spoiling strategy, with Ukraine hoping to kill enough attackers to weaken the Russians before their spring offensive and the Russians hoping to kill enough defenders to spoil the offensive. That's all.

Current situation at Bakhmut city:
#RussianArmy broke #UkrainianArmy defense line & took control over School Nº 2 & Nº 40 & post office thus reaching Chaikovskoho street. The south supply line of Ukrainian forces to the city of Bakhmut is cut now.

Raising our flag on Mount Suribachi didn’t mean that we’d conquered Iwo Jima. Far from it.

I have always said that the American people and the Russian people have more in common than is generally acknowledged. First of all they are a Christian nation. A majority of Russians profess a belief in Christianity. Boris Yeltsin started the sell off of Russia’s state owned assets in a corrupt manner, an Putin followed on and raised the level of corruption. To late, he has realized how these corrupt oligarchs have grown in political power throughout the world and represent a direct threat to his own power. He has “eliminated” several of them in the last few years in an attempt to reaffirm that he is ultimately still in charge, and to cover some of his own tracks, but in my mind it is questionable whether his thuggish approach will withstand the combined intellect and resources of the people he so graciously anointed with wealth beyond anything they ever comprehended. I believe Putin’s days are numbered. Maybe he will be allowed to retire to his Black Sea castle, or maybe something worse is in store because the knowledge he posses is a liability that must be extinguished. All I know is that Russia will never move ahead while he is at the helm.

The Russian media has been saying that for a while.

It’s a small town in a punch bowl. To the west there are hills rising about the east. The Russians will be hammered and sniped every minute they sit there. And it’s too muddy to get their armor up the hills or through the marshy areas.

Congratulations. You’ve spend months trying to gain 1/2 mile of territory that is going to cost even more to hold.

“Bakmut Has Fallen”

Funny, that might be news to the Russian Colonel who got sniped in Bakmut this morning. I hope his family enjoys their Easter knowing he died to make Russia Soviet again.
