Let’s be blunt — legal weed is turning New York workers into zombies
New York Post ^ | Apr 16, 2023 | Steve Cuozzo

The Big Apple is now the Big Blunt.

Not just because decriminalized marijuana led to proliferating mayhem in the five boroughs.

Not just because stinky smoke hangs everywhere, seeping into subway cars and even Broadway theaters — the acrid odor I detected in the crowded men’s room of the Majestic Theatre a few weeks ago was not from “The Phantom of the Opera” smoke machine.

It’s also because of a forbidden-to-utter truth, in an age where raising the minimum wage ever higher has become mantra — namely, a license to get high has turned service employees into zombies.

For all the people crying about how legalized weed is destroying the country - I guarantee you that even if it were still illegal we would be having the same problems. Mass support for legalization is a symptom, not the cause. The cause is the overall degradation of the culture and values of our society. No amount of laws will save a society that is as rotten as ours.

And I still hold you drug warriors at least partly responsible for the massive spreading of the police state, which you cheered on because you really wanted to stick it to those dope smoking hippies. Now cops, both local and federal, get to do whatever they want and the Constitution be damned.

All part of the Deep State plan. People who are stoned are easier to control.

My wife said the country is becoming engulfed in stupid. To which I added, stupid AND evil.

Yeah, by all means. Let’s collapse the Republic just cause you’re a stoner.

Lots of prescription drugs are opium based, and they have at least as bad a track record as marijuana. I am 100% against legalizing pot. I could consider CBD which doesn't have to have THC in it. The problem is, everywhere where I see the push for medical marijuana (Georgia, Arizona), the medical marijuana people always WELCOME the Woody Harrelson/Tommy Chong types, and seem indifferent to the joke medical marijuana becomes wherever it is allowed. Here in Arizona, even before recreeational use was allowed, Tommy Chong was giving a celebrity endorsement, billboards for marijuana pizza, burgers and gummies popped up. Is this the only prescription drug with no controlled dosage?!

Why does nobody sell hypertension drug pizza and advertise it on a billboard? It is because the folks like Lizavetta who may have a legitimate medical use are overwhelmed by a mighty army of people who want to get high.

China dealt with this with the Opium Dens.

They’ve been plotting their revenge ever since.

No, we wouldn’t, by any elementary economic principle. Raise the cost of a product or activity significantly, you will get less of it every time, or at least less of it crassly displayed in public.

And the “legalization” developments always proves the adage “give them and inch and they take a mile.” Legalization to any degree is always read by ardent users as license to engage in getting stoned with no limits, at any time, anywhere, by any means.

And I take from your anti-police rhetoric that you’re one of the “defund” mob?

It wasn’t necessarily Democrats who pushed the legalization of marijuana through the legislature in WA State, making it one the first two states to legalize it. It was the libertarians, who were working hard to take over the Republican Party at that time. The legalization of weed was their main issue. I know because, I was a Republican precinct captain at that time.

It is what the left has wanted for more than half a century.

“I’ve lived in the city nearly all my life. I never had to repeat my highly complex Starbucks order — a “tall” coffee — three times to get a response from the bummed-out barista, the way I do now.

My friend Shelley Clark, a restaurant consultant, observed, “Too often, any question or request is met with a vacant look and a very much by-rote ‘no problem.’”

Honestly, I think that blank stare is the first fruit of the primary schools and even colleges shut down for classes a couple years ago as well. The kids of that era will likely never catch up. Combine that with legalized pot and you have the worst of all worlds.

Blame libertarians nutbags. I have always been against marijuana legalization. The only good thing about marijuana was Cheech and Chong movies.

Marijuana should have been left illegal but without the crazy jail sentences. Just fine people and give them some jail. Black yoof are very doped up these days. They copy their doped up rapper heroes who brag about their dope consumption. This is why so many of these yooofs are criminals with messed up brains.

A couple years ago my stepson was staying with us for a couple of months. He was a stoner. He "helped" with chores but ended up damaging more equipment than it was worth. His muddled mind left him devoid of self-awareness. He was pleasant enough but the weed left a perpetual fog in his head.

Compare the regions that have used cannabis as an intoxicant for thousands of years to Western civilization which has always been alcohol-based and never adopted cannabis over those thousands of years even though they knew about it.

Once the deep state takes over there will be no room for zombies. They’ll be eliminated in a manner that will make the Nazis look like amateurs. Since they don’t know their history they don’t know there was no such thing as unemployment in Soviet-era Russia.

“Yes, let’s just forget that “three martini lunches” and offices with an ashtray on every desk were ever a thing and blame the kids for the downfall of society because a few of them sneak a puff of weed while they’re at work.”

Selective memory and hypocrisy are critical items in a drug warrior’s toolbox.

Any Missouri FRiends out there? Mo legalized pot sales several weeks ago. How’s that working out for you?

It’s easier to prosecute booze impaired behind the wheel than pot impaired.

Deep State put the cart before the horse and didn’t care that there is no set standard for what constitutes pot intoxication.

You blew a .08 or over, you’re in trouble.

Get caught driving while stoned, not so much in NYS.

“a little Sinsemilla gets your nose tweaked?”

Whoa, back to the 70s speaking of Sinsemilla. People talk about pot being stronger today, and I’m sure overall it is. However, there was some really fine Sinsemilla back then. The difference I think is that really strong pot was much more rare back then.

I tried some Delta-8 gummies to help with sleep for a couple of nights, legally purchased over the counter. Actually they didn’t help at all, left me kind of jumpy and I tossed the leftovers. One more dadgum thing that isn’t as good as I remember it.
