The queries targeted people involved in Jan. 6 and George Floyd protests, and donors to a failed congressional candidate

...

The FBI improperly used warrantless search powers against U.S. citizens more than 278,000 times in the year ending November 2021, according to an unsealed Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) filing.

U.S. citizens covered in that improper effort included people involved in the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021; George Floyd protesters during the summer of 2020; and donors to a failed congressional candidate, the filing said.

...

The court filing, which spanned 127 pages, was unsealed Friday by the FISC, but was filed in April 2022.

...

As Director Wray has made clear, the errors described in the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court’s opinion are completely unacceptable," a senior FBI official

...

The filing released on Friday detailed a number of the improper queries, including a batch query for "over 19,000 donors to a congressional campaign."

...

FISA Section 702 is set to sunset on Dec. 31, and lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are proposing reforms in order to reauthorize the section, with more congressional oversight.

“What happened to equal justice under the law?”

There’s this thing called the “RINO party” that refuses to prosecute anything having to do with Democrats.

Why for example is Marjorie Taylor Greene the only one calling for the impeachment of Joe Biden? Yes, Democrats have the Senate, but what about sending a MESSAGE??

In 2017 when Repubs had both houses and the WH, Democrats stomped all over them with this Russia collusion crap. And today Republicans DARE not mention impeachment when this punk Biden is CLEARLY corrupt as it gets?

“ but what about sending a MESSAGE??”

To send a message you need a party that is opposed to the Biden administration, and that party, no matter how much you wish it to be true, is not the GOP.

Since they seem to want to get to know us better, maybe we ought to return the favor.

No one will get a reprimand in their file, let alone go to jail. Frankly, dozens of people should lose their jobs, pensions and freedom for this egregious violation of the Constitution that they are all sworn to “preserve, protect and defend.”

That no judge has tossed out these cases based on the “fruit of the poisonous tree” doctrine also says a lot. The only conclusion that can be reasonably drawn is that there is a 2-tiered judicial system, something that should be impossible. It is a wonder of modern conditioning techniques that so many people still abide by our obviously corrupt system.

The January 6 Political Prisoners were arrested and are being imprisoned and tortured for protesting in support of Donald Trump, as regards him being the victim of electoral cheating.

I am not aware of ANY prominent public figure consistently acting in support of these victims of tyranny.

The government under George W. Bush was benevolent.

More or less, yes ... the insane bush-hate groupthink around here to the contrary notwithstanding.

That is why any expansion of government power must be examined according to how it will inevitably be ABUSED. That the present government will use it to pursue and eliminate genuine enemies of We the People is not the only issue. That the next government, consisting of power-hungry corruptocrats, will abuse it is often a more important consideration.

The over-use, misuse, and corrupt abuse of RICO and Civil Asset Forfeiture must serve as a cautionary tale.

If we are to have a new Constitutional Convention (quite unlikely) I'd propose strict term limits on ALL members of all three branches of government, with clear and severe punishments for clear definition of what constitutes traitorism.

A little prime-time programing of real human swine dancing on air for a short time with all the indignant biological mess would start a Beltway trend of real-estate vacancies - literal rats escaping a sinking ship.

If you are talking about an Article V convention it is NOT A CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION! It’s a means of introducing Constitutional Amendments to the states for ratification in exactly the same as amendments passed by Congrees are introduced to the states. It just by passes Congress. Same percent of states needed to ratify each ammendment (3/4) as the ones coming from Congress. Also it’s call an Article V convention because it’s Article V in the US Constitution so a totally legitimate means of getting ammendments public and to the states for ratification.

Yes, Article V Convention. A little too wrapped up in the message to look it up again but I was thinking more of the Convention of States where term limits, constraints on Federal powers and limits on spending are established.

The great fear that the whole shebang will come crashing down should we do that is real with the forces of communism having already overtaken so many institutions, but I have foolish faith that God and the better instincts of our chosen representatives wouldn't allow it to be reduced to a faster slide to self-destruction.

My main worry about an Article V COS is the media.
The original convention it was agreed among the delegates that there would be no press. They pretty much kept to that. How do you keep today’s media out? If involved, how did you keep them from turnout it into a 3-way cross between a circus, a political convention and the Super Bowl?

Perhaps the technological progression of every person having access to nearly everything works in our favor? While the mass media still guides most idiots they've shot themselves in the foot backing too many lies and real conspiracies favoring partisan interests over what's best for America...and most people are now aware of that as more proof of that keeps emerging with no end in sight.

I'm saying a Convention of States could demonstrate to the masses how using chosen representatives is far wiser than depending on the same process that determines televised popular singer contests. Allowing media access to the decisive events of the Convention would give citizens the feeling of participation, seeing their chosen representatives there as avatars of their interests and welfare.

With skillful production and editing it could engage even the dimmest of our citizenry while re-establishing a nationwide passion for civics and responsible government. I'm all for voting the traitors off the island and having a bailiff whack their peepees.

These convention delegates should not be anyone in office, no academics and no current government employees of any stripe (Fed, State, local). I would forbid past public office holders or government employees.

If they used it 278,000 times, they are not using it improperly anymore.
