RFK, Jr. makes a climate speech in Vermont -- and I was there: Eyewitness account suggests a formidable candidate, So what did the lefties do?

The 2023 summer solstice was marked in the Green Mountains of Vermont by a somewhat incongruous visit by Democrat presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.

Addressing an audience of some 200 enthusiastic supporters on June 21 in Burlington, Mr. Kennedy’s subject for the evening centered on industrial pollution and his plans to improve energy efficiency through free markets.

But Vermont’s hills did not reverberate with approving liberal cheers for these sensible policy proposals: nary a Democrat was in attendance.

Bernie Sanders did not introduce the fast-rising Dem hopeful from Camelot; Peter Welch did not extend a red carpet. The event that platformed Kennedy was organized and hosted by the rather libertarian-leaning Ethan Allen Institute, an educational think tank focusing on free markets, individual liberty, and constitutional integrity.

Kennedy’s unconventional 2024 presidential campaign thus found a Vermont welcome in an unexpected forum.

The Ethan Allen Institute has maintained its non-partisan posture throughout three decades of policy analysis and research. A recent EAI event featured famed columnist George F. Will, and was largely attended by conservatives. A different cross-section of Vermonters gathered for RFK’s visit, hinting at the possibility of a growing alliance of populist support for an authentic maverick.

Speaking energetically in the low-ceilinged event room, Mr. Kennedy engaged the smilingly attentive crowd with a history of his legal battles against large industrial polluters challenging PCBs that tainted the Hudson River, and coal-burning plants that polluted the country with mercury. Mr. Kennedy’s passion and confident optimism held the room even for those who might disagree: there was no doubting the intensity of his sincerity.

He and Trump are closer than you think.

I would love to see him in a Trump cabinet...

What do you mean “ didn’t jump aboard the global warming bandwagon”? He’s been at it for some time now! He’s a teamster on that wagon! He’s said in public that he wants to put energy executives and those who are “global warming deniers” in jail!

He’s just another authoritarian leftist. What makes him dangerous is he’s one with a politically romantic name - Kennedy. People get all gooey, misty-eyed and nonrational when they hire that name.

A good dose of sanity. Too many freezers fall for a sane position or too that a RAT like RFK or Manchin might have. But these RATs are all totalitarian monsters. They might oppose one or two planks of the RAT agenda. But they are still RATs.

so far, the only big problem i have with RFK is his democrat stance on abortion. he would be a vast improvement on Brandon however.

I agree with you and I give him credit for being willing to push back on Leftist orthodoxy. In fact, even more so than some on the largely passive Right do. And yes, this is how the system should work (open and vigorous discourse/debate).

industrial pollution and his plans to improve energy efficiency through free markets.

Everybody wants clean air and clean water. That's not what the Green New Deal is about at all. It's the biggest graft since Covid; only bigger. So Kennedy is right. Let the markets work it out. If some industry is a polluter, they face liabilities already they don't need excessive federal regulations. Their incentive to improve is to avoid consumer liabilities and meet consumer demand and make profits. Levying government "fines" makes life easier for them while making it look like government is here to help us.

Trump supported Democratic candidates. Donated to Hillary’s NY Senate campaign and Harris’ CA AG campaign. Pragmatic perhaps

Agree!
However, I prefer to ignore them, that’s more devastating to those Kennedy narcissists.

That is my concern that most people do not look at his background and history. This guy has been a nut case for 30 years. His anti-vac history dovetailed nicely into the mRNA fiasco and he in dropping all his other phobias to ride the Tiger.

***********

Yes it did. Quite nicely and serendipitous for him.

Being nothing but another shifty politician he was quick to exploit the vax issue to propel his candidacy forward. That’s what pols are always looking for: an issue they can seize upon to for publicity and donor money. It can also help to camoflauge parts of their past they would rather not talk about.

He’s not a moderate and would not govern as one IMO.

Good idea. I can't believe, that after all these years someone, some where would be wanting to revive ''Camelot''. Spare us another Kennedy.

If he looks and sounds like his namesake, he can wrest the nomination from Biden.
