In Florida after July 1 of this year you don’t need a concealed carry permit either, mine was getting ready to expire I elected to renew it just in case I care in other states.

I don’t need one in Florida, but if I want to carry out of state, I need a Florida permit in most states.

It’s like conforming to the desires of a small minority of masochists by requiring that everyone be beaten.

> Although they don’t need a permit to carry a handgun, over 200,000 people in Texas still obtained licenses in 2022. <

I’ve been looking over that horrible law, the Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990. Be within 1000 feet of a school while carrying a gun, and you’ve committed a felony.

But if you’ve got a state CCW license, you’re okay. That’s my understanding, anyway. And I could be wrong.

Permits are to use your rights are no longer needed in the majority of states. From here on it’ll be pretty hard to convince any remaining holdouts.

While I think classes are useful, you can really just read a few pamphlets on the general rules and be ok. A 4-hour class isn’t going to make much of a difference if you are in a firefight. The main thing I remember from those classes was how to properly point guns when unholstered, always down and around in a smooth motion so as never to sweep anyone.

We don’t need one where I live either. I have one because it makes the buying process so much faster and easier.

Yes, you are correct. That is one of the biggest reasons to still have a license. There are also places like movie theaters that like to ban permitless carry, but as they say concealed means concealed.

Any place that doesn’t have security and metal detectors and also bans carry should be liable for any damages done to anyone during a crime on their property, IMO.

I forgot to add something to my post #5. A state carry license evidently exempts you from the worst parts of the Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990. But state reciprocity does not count. You have to have a license issued by the state you’re physically now in.

Only reason I keep one is for buying more guns and not having to go through a background check...In and out...

Also the concealed laws in TX are intentionally vague, half the time DPS doesn’t really know all the details of who is qualified and where. They use that for selective enforcement of the law.

As of October 1, the lunatics who hate us (state legislature) made our carry permits about worthless.

Get this. You can only carry into buildings with permission of the owner.

How stupid.

So if I bring another state’s CC license with me and have it concealed, I still can’t legally be within 1,000 feet of a school?

Apparently not according to #9’s wiki link:

Because the Federal GFSZA requires the permit be issued by the state which the school zone is in,[6][7][8] it is difficult for a permit holder to travel outside their state of issuance to a reciprocating state without violating the Federal GFSZA

—— This is a plain ‘gotcha’ law. I didn’t even know that part.
