(EXCERPTED)
Lawmakers in Sacramento pass plenty of complex, arcane measures every year that can be hard to wrap your head around. But they also pass laws that can have a pretty direct impact on everyday Californians’ lives, including some coming online in 2024 that could affect your commute, your annual camping trip or your paycheck.
Here are 16 new laws that will kick in next year, beginning with the ones that go into effect on Jan. 1. Kicking in on Jan. 1

Must’ve missed 3 or so. Oh well.
What would we ever do if we had a year with NO NEW LAWS? What if we said “We have enough laws. Hire police, DAs, and judges to ENFORCE the laws we have!”
What's "reproductive loss leave"? Do they mean abortion? That you get paid time off if you've had an abortion? Is that the new euphemism?
That would be good. What if we had a year with nothing but old laws being repealed?

Get all the productive folks out. Let the state collapse. We can figure out what to do with it then.
Miscarriage
Oh nice. More laws that won’t be enforced against criminals.
Unfortunately, that won't happen because in the mid-1960s, Assemblyman Houston Flournoy (R-Pomona) pushed through a law giving California a full-time legislature. He was proud of that accomplishment, but I think it has been an unmitigated disaster. Now in session full-time, our legislature deluges us with wacko-woke laws.
Ah so that is when the change happened and who did that.
Ex-californian here. I watched this happen, real time. So many otherwise intelligent people thought that this was a good idea. It didn’t take long for them to change their minds, after it was too late. I was a teenager at that time so I really had the opportunity to really take it in and understand. I have been saying this full time legislature is the reason California was destroyed for a very long time.
With the exception of new speed limits (unless that’s for a minimum speed...), looks like most of the new laws stem from this one:
“Employment protections for cannabis users”
Full time state legislatures are a disaster everywhere they are used. Those busybodies need to feel like they are “doing something” and all they can do is pass laws harassing the citizenry. Wiki says “The California state legislature is one of just ten full-time state legislatures in the United States.” I thought there were a lot more than ten.
I didn’t realize that Houston Flournoy pushed through the law creating a full-time CA legislature.
Here’s a personal tidbit: Wiki says Flournoy was “Born in New York City, he attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where he was active in the Cornell University Glee Club and the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He studied under Clinton Rossiter, a Cornell faculty member who was an authority on The Federalist.”
I went to Junior High School with and was friends with Dr. Clinton Rossiter’s son, Caleb. We lived in the same neighborhood not too far apart.
Small world!
Alaska State Legislature
California State Legislature
Hawaii State Legislature
Illinois State Legislature
Massachusetts State Legislature
Michigan State Legislature
New York State Legislature
Ohio State Legislature
Pennsylvania General Assembly
Wisconsin State Legislature
Sorta feel sorry for the people in that once FREE STATE. But they vote for these folks. So, they’re only doing what dictators do. Adding more useless laws on them and regulations to strangle their lives and their way of living with.
Bump
Protection for employees over cannabis usage???
SCREEN YOUR PROSPECTS EVEN CLOSER, employers.
This could lead to WORKER’S COMP PROBLEMS
WHAT IS “REPRODUCTIVE LOSS LEAVE?”
