“Since we began preliminary inspections on Saturday, we have found instances that appear to relate to installation issues in the door plug – for example, bolts that needed additional tightening.”

Like maybe ALL of the bolts on the so called “door plug” that replaced an optional emergency exit door in the frame. Photos of the missing “plug” show every part of the surround of the door neatly separated. Very fortunate no-one was seated next to that-— sucked out at 16K feet. Incompetence if this is the “door” plugs they describe. Deadly.

Boeing went outside of Seattle to get away from the unions only to find such poor quality of work that the costs are exceeding any savings.

The 737s are built in Renton.

a cupla years ago it was the new software in the 737 that Boiing (sound of a plane bouncing off the ground). Remember that? new flight control software that was never revealed to the pilots, and now the hardware has some major problems. What other nasty problems are lurking in the 737? i.e. "oh, you wanted air in the tires?" "Crap, you wanted BOTH engines working? My bad"..

This is one of those supposed to be funny but now not so..

Pilot note to maintenance: "Something loose in undercarriage. Makes noise"

With the execs separated from the shop floor, the engineering culture of Boeing became a bean-counting culture.

Honda has always required its CEO to be an engineer who rose through the ranks. Maybe Boeing should consider doing the same?

Likely not Boeing’s fault, probably the airline. Boeing provides the door opening and the airline puts in the plug because they want to squeeze a few more seats in. They only need 50 seats per exit.

Apparently Alaskan Air took delivery as is just two months ago. The door plug, like the rest of the 737 Max 9 fuselage, is manufactured by Spirit AeroSystems, a Boeing supplier out of Wichita, Kansas.
