Gov. Hochul eyes removal of ‘offensive art’ of Native Americans from NY Capitol
NY Post ^ | 01/09/2024 | Carl Campanile and Vaughn Golden

Gov. Kathy Hochul inserted herself into a culture clash Tuesday, saying she’s considering banishing artwork of Native Americans in the state Capitol building that is deemed offensive to tribal people.

Hochul’s push to remove negative depictions of Native Americans in artwork comes amid the ongoing campaign to remove statues of explorer Christopher Columbus from the public square or government buildings over his treatment of indigenous people.

New York education officials in 2022 ordered school districts to ditch Native American mascots deemed racist.

There’s a big bust of Columbus — a revered figure among many Italian Americans — chiseled into the “Million Dollar Staircase” in the Capitol Building.

“over his treatment of indigenous people”.

How did Columbus mistreat Native Americans? He was an explorer, not a conquistador.

It’s because the liberal view is that Columbus mistreated Indian people here in the Americas.

You have to remember the facts don’t matter with these political statements. The facts of whatever Columbus did don’t matter. The only thing that matters is the narrative that Columbus was the bad guy.

I’m still waiting for Columbus Ohio to change its name.

When will Columbia University change its name?

The District of Columbia certainly cannot retain such a name if Columbus is that damn offensive to everyone.

Removing Columbus would be offensive to Americans of Italian descent

Yeah it makes you wonder doesn’t she have any other problems in her state?

It sure seems like there’s plenty of severe problems for her to work on . Yep she makes a big deal about allegedly offensive art.

Hochul is a great example of the ravages of libtardism on the mind. You have rampant crime, homeless veterans, disease epidemics, the city being overrun with illegal criminal invaders, and what keeps HER awake at night? Old paintings that no one has looked at in 50 years. I doubt if any "native Americans" have devoted a moment of thought to those paintings either. Good heavens, what a total moron this woman is. NYers deserve what they voted for. They could have had a sensible and competent governor in Lee Zeldin, but they picked this commie idiot.

A few extras about the plan to remove the statue of William Penn....

So, the Shawnee and Delaware tribes are whining? How about some history!
French and Indian Wars, Conspiracy of Pontiac 1750s-1765

The Quaker Pennsylvania Legislature, in the 1760s was so pacifist and pro-Indian that the citizens had to pile their murdered family members in the doorway to force the Quaker legislators to walk over them, and finally call out the militia to protect the settlers from Indian attacks.

This was about the time the FIRST SCHOOL HOUSE MASSACRE took place in Pennsylvania, caused by Delaware Indians. Google The Enoch Brown Massacre of 1764.
https://pabook.libraries.psu.edu/literary-cultural-heritage-map-pa/feature-articles/enoch-brown-massacre-unmatched

The Shawnees and others, after being moved to Oklahoma, made a great reputation by being SCALPHUNTERS, killing Apaches for Mexican Gold!

Google the name James Kirker, Scalphunter

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Kirker

“In December 1839, Kirker was given a contract by the government of Chihuahua to fight Apaches. He was authorized to raise 200 men and would be paid for Apache prisoners.[3] The core group of his force was about 25 men, called “Sahuanos” (Shawnees) which included Anglos, Mexicans, escaped Black slaves and Shawnee, Delaware, and Creek Indians, including his second in command, a Shawnee named Spybuck.[4]”

No, I believe they hate him because he brought European (white!!!) civilization to the Americas. Being a ‘colonialist’ is currently the great sin.

The reality is that the Americas would have been discovered within a decade had Columbus never lived and Indian life, as they knew it, was doomed (except in a few places where Europeans did not or could not want for themselves).

Stop making out like Indians were some superior race..not capable of "badness". Tribes vied to be the strongest and the bravest and like one President said...way way back...if it wasn't for the White Man, they would have likely killed themselves out of existence.

Some people marvel at the ease with which Hernan Cortez and a handful of Spaniards overthrew the Aztec empire. What they miss is that he had help ... from all the tribes other than the Aztecs themselves. Being used as slaves and sacrificial victims didn’t sit too well with them.
