House Speaker Mike Johnson will introduce a bill to send $17.6 billion to Israel in emergency aid without corresponding spending cuts amid a fight over border security.
The first standalone Israel aid package voted on included IRS cuts, which of course received heavy backlash by Democrats and was rejected by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.
The new Israel funding bill will exclude the IRS cuts.
"While the Senate appears poised to finally release text of their supplemental package after months of behind closed doors negotiations, their leadership is aware that by failing to include the House in their negotiations, they have eliminated the ability for swift consideration of any legislation,” speaker Johnson wrote in a letter to colleagues.
"Given the Senate’s failure to move appropriate legislation in a timely fashion, and the perilous circumstances currently facing Israel, the House will continue to lead. Next week, we will take up and pass a clean, standalone Israel supplemental package.”

Desert Storm had virtually nothing to do with Israel.
You don’t remember Saddam firing Scud Missiles at Tel Aviv in Israel?
Well maybe calling it a stunt was a poor choice of words. But he has to know HR2 very likely won’t get consideration in the Senate or the WH - and now as of today we see the Senate released the text of their bill “allowing” 200,000 people a month to cross. It’s absurd, basically giving Biden’s poor executive action Congressional blessing. So absurd. Hopefully that Senate bill doesn’t even come up before the House.
Anyway it may not have been designed as a stunt and came from a place of principle, but it’s probably going nowhere and Johnson has to have known it. Even if it passed it would still be up to Biden to enforce it and we know he won’t. So why do it? Because they had to, and because the politics of it. It’s a huge issue and the voters need to know what the GOP will fight for if they can get control of the two chambers and the WH. That matters. Hence my overall thought that Johnson may be a better political tactician and effective speaker than many realize. Time will tell. But GOP Senators are mucking things up. I’m not entirely sure why they feel the need to give Biden this kind of cover on the #1 issue for GOP voters.
