Paxlovid can lessen the chance of a severe COVID-19 illness. Why is it underused?

Tens of thousands of Americans are hospitalized with COVID-19 every week. Thousands die from it every month. And yet, an antiviral treatment proven to lessen the chances of severe outcomes is going underused.

The drug, Paxlovid, is lauded by experts as a powerful tool that can prevent hospitalization and death from COVID-19. But the high price and doctors’ hesitation to prescribe the pills mean the five-day treatment isn’t getting to everyone who would benefit from it.

“When you read in your local newspaper that in this hospital, they’ve got this many COVID patients, most of those are preventable hospitalizations,” said Dr. Amesh Adalja, a senior scholar at Johns Hopkins University who sees Paxlovid as a useful tool to treat COVID-19.

I have used Paxlovid and I can vouch for its effectiveness. Its use is restricted to those with one or more defined risk factors, such as age, obesity, or certain chronic illnesses that render one vulnerable to covid. But yeah, test positive, take Paxlovid, be symptom free in 48 hours, test negative in five days.

That’s what health insurance is for. Covered like any other medication.

My husband agreed to NOT get the vaccine but after getting covid, his doctor (who was FURIOUS that he refused the vaccine) convinced him to take paxlovid. The manufacturer is a BIG problem to me and was the manufacturer of both the vax available to my husband and paxlovid.

PLEASE look into Ivermectin!!! The third world countries that weren’t really affected by covid are constantly taking it and stay healthy.

True. Many people are on high-deductible plans and that kind of outlay has a behavioral effect that might be reflected in the fact that usage of the drug is less than what was expected.

It really helped me when I finally got Covid. It immediately started bringing my temperature down and relieving the aches and pains. I’m glad I took it.

I know people who religiously got their flu shot every year and now they’re afraid they don’t know what they’ll give them.

Young parents are questioning vaccinations for their children and believe me they have so many vaccinations they give these kids these days.

Because they want the body count. They can’t reduce the population if they keep us alive.

Nearly every friend or family member that has used Paxlovid has got over Covid quickly only to get the rebound version far worse in about three weeks. Just more crapola from the brave new world of Covid Science!

I see that advertised on The Old Geezer Channel pretty often. It must be expensive because it only makes sense to advertise expensive meds.

I had mild cases. My wife had a very bad case. Our doc put her on steroids and a bunch of vitamins. Took her a week to get back on her feet.
