Trump did not “encourage Russia to invade” anybody. He simply said that Europe has been living off the US for decades, via NATO, and that they should start paying their way. They are the welfare babies, and the US taxpayer is sick of carrying them.

I notice the DNC mouthpiece political shows have no sense of humor when Trump cracks one sarcastically but plays off Biden's burbling inanities as some sort of next-level brilliance we commoners aren't understanding.

The Emperor Wears No Clothes indeed.

“Just a sly prod to get the NATO members who are lax in their duties to get back in the game.”

Yep, and Trump did get their attention as they agreed to the commitments and were actually moving in that direction, until The Steal.

When can we blast NATO for screwing us for the last 70 years? They’ve run the scam of the century.

So, which allies are these? The ones who promote homosexuality? Trans genderism? Child mutilation? Anti-Christian views? Tolerance of the atrocities of Hamas? Suppression of free speech? Taxation for climate change? Anti-farming legislation? Open borders everywhere? Political support for Biden, Democrats and Rinos? Endless funding for war in Ukraine?

Our allies support most of these things. Russia does not support most of these things. Should Russia go to war with our allies? NO! Is Trump correct in his criticism of our allies? A resounding YES!

Europe is a continent with many countries that aren't part of NATO and many countries who aren't part of the EU and many countries who aren't part of either.

"The United States could have been a big neutral Continent far away from competing powers but our own politicians couldn’t wait for their own opportunity to play Empire Builder. So they added an Income tax to pay for their fancy war machines and the rest has been downhill ever since"

Yep...This is the government our Founders warned us about.

Many smaller towns had fire departments where you had to pay a fee every year if you wanted them to respond in case you house caught on fire.

If you did not pay and your house caught on fire the department would respond only to make sure the fire did not spread.

I see no difference.

Gotta give The Donald credit… he’s been harping on this topic since day one. This latest comment of his on NATO is a smack in the ass to wake them up to pay up.

I think it was just a flip comment expressing his opinion of non-payers. But I don’t think he really meant it. Of course, the Dems will use it against him. That is to be expected. He needs to be on guard what he says.

“So, which allies are these? The ones who promote homosexuality? Trans genderism?....”

GREAT POINT - just what would we be defending if Russia decided to liberate Europe from their Globohom Neo-Fascist Death Grip they’re now under, FROM THEIR OWN LEADERS?

AND THESE DEADBEAT COUNTRIES DON’T PAY THEIR SHARE.

NATO ‘partners’ are nuts if they feel WE AMERICANS should give up our treasure and lives to protect them when they won’t honor their part of the agreement.

NO WAY. Let them protect themselves if they can’t meet their half of the deal.

It’s one thing to say if they don’t pay, we don’t help. Quite another to say Russia should invade. I’m hoping he puts an end to these wars-not encourage more.

Our wonderful allies won’t spend the money to defend themselves as you pointed out. And, our wonderful allies support many disgusting policies which are plaguing America and are leading to its certain decline.

Trump already has the support of his base, who are the people most likely to be strongly supportive of his position here. The question becomes, does making this statement persuade any ADDITIONAL voters to support Trump? Or does it push some who are reluctantly supporting Trump away? IMHO, while this might energize MAGA nation, it doesn’t help him expand his base beyond that, and may instead push those on the fence away. Remember, most of those people who are persuadable to vote for Trump but are not strong supporters are more likely to be influenced by the media. This is not some issue where it can be reasonably portrayed as the media doing a hatchet job on Trump, lying about him or persecuting him - these are his words, spoken in a very public venue.

It all comes down to a risk/benefit analysis. We can all see the risk of Trump making this statement, he will be portrayed as an isolationist, as being pro-dictator (yes, Putin is a dictator), being a loose cannon in foreign affairs, and risks alienating independent voters who might be supportive of NATO. So what is the benefit to his campaign, other than getting the base worked up? How does it increase his chances of getting elected?
