Stacey Zolt Hara was in her office in downtown San Francisco when a text from her 16-year-old daughter arrived: “I’m scared,” she wrote. Her classmates at Berkeley High School were preparing to leave their desks and file into the halls, part of a planned “walkout” to protest Israel. Like many Jewish students, she didn’t want to participate. It was October 18, 11 days after the Hamas invasion of southern Israel.
Zolt Hara told her daughter to wait in her classroom. She was trying to project calm. A public-relations executive, Zolt Hara had moved her family from Chicago to Berkeley six years earlier, hoping to find a community that shared her progressive values. Her family had developed a deep sense of belonging there.
But a moral fervor was sweeping over Berkeley High that morning. Around 10:30, the walkout began. Jewish parents traded panicked reports from their children. Zolt Hara heard that kids were chanting, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” a slogan that suggests the elimination of Israel. Rumors spread about other, less coy phrases shouted in the hallways, carrying intimations of violence. Jewish students were said to be in tears. Parents were texting one another ideas about where in the school their children could hide. Zolt Hara placed a call to the dean of students. By her own admission, she was hysterical. She says the dean hung up on her.

I think that’s a bit of a stretch. We’re talking about the 30s, 40s, 50s and what I suppose was called “the Negro problem”. Don’t think anyone was thinking about non-white immigration from foreign lands.

The two key US Senators who initiated the immigration nightmare were Ted Kennedy and Jacob Javits, obviously Kennedy was Catholic.
However at that time they were changing the rules for legal immigration in the 1960s.
The illegal invasion is of more modern origin.
The Karl Marx reference is correct, of course—and shows just how weird this topic really is.
Leftists have always been “cafeteria Marxists”—picking up those pieces they like, ignoring pieces they don’t—and then updating them with more modern templates like Gramsci and Marcuse and the deconstruction folks.
The key point imho is that leftist Jews always considered themselves part of the oppressed masses—no matter how much wealth and power they had in the real world.
Never mind the point that “leftist Jew” is nominally an oxymoron, since the left is out to destroy all religion and ethnic identity.
PS. Franklin Foer, the author of this mess, is himself a “leftist Jew” who used to write for The New Republic.

But yes you are right, they were expanding legal immigration, and well-considered or otherwise, that has nothing to do with millions of persons, of whatever persuasion just entering our nation illegally.

I’d imagine American Jews have received the shock of their lives.
I am proudly Jewish, and I am utterly certain that the strongest support of both Israel and Jews in the US comes from the right side of the political spectrum, mainly due to the huge influence of sincere Christians in the Republican Party. This has been the case since the rise of Reagan, with somewhat lower support during the administration of Bush the Elder (may the memory of this NWO RINO be erased).
A recent report said that there has been a big swing of Jewish support to Republicans in NYC. Apparently Jews have woke up to the real threat to them from the left.
Precisely. Each nation has something of a national character, for good or bad. When Italians go bad they go bad in Italian ways, when Americans or Germans go bad they go bad in American or German ways.
The Jewish people were made by God to bring the Messiah. When they go bad they go bad in the Jewish way...which is to say they transplant the Messianism that should be ordered toward God instead toward the things of man—”fixing” the world via money, political power, the arts, activism.
Evil is everywhere on the march; all have abandoned God. The Golden Age of *everyone* is ending.

I would say that post-WWII, in America, was very good to those who are Jewish.
