Never read the book, I wonder if they mentioned the huge difference (~3X) between cigarette-smoking rates between French women and American women. Smoking is an appetite suppressant, and nicotine is a stimulant that accelerates metabolism. It’s sill to ignore all that when approximately 40% of French women in the 18-50 age-range are smokers.
As for “why the French love American fast food”... it’s pretty simple... they’re human beings, and American fast food combines sugar, salt and fat in a tasty combination. A family member used to teach 2nd grade. She had a student who’d arrived from India approximately 3 months earlier. One day, the little boy told the class, “When we moved here from Mumbai, I thought I would hate the food. But I LOVE American food. Hamburgers, french fries, pizza, doughnuts, fried chicken. It’s all GREAT!”
