Donald Trump may not pay bond — and instead let Letitia James seize Trump Tower: insiders

As Donald Trump faces a Monday deadline to post a $454 million bond in the civil fraud case against him in New York, insiders said he may be weighing a little-discussed option: Do nothing.

The ex-president reportedly has been struggling to raise the cash for the bond — either from banks or wealthy friends — with his lawyers claiming on Monday that it was a “practical impossibility.”

While some reports have raised speculation that Trump may “go nuclear” with a Chapter 11 filing to protect his prize real estate assets across Manhattan, experts said bankruptcy would create unwelcome complications as the 2024 election season comes to a head.

“He’s been there and done that,” one insider close to Trump said, dismissing the prospect of a Chapter 11 filing.

Trump owns other properties in NY State, as well as Mar-a-Lago in Florida. Can Letitia seize Mar-a-Lago? But it's only worth $18 million according to Engoron so that would just be a drop in the bucket.

A lawyer on Fox & Friends said that if they seize the properties he would not get them back even if he wins the appeal.

The whole thing is a travesty, but what's worse is that most Democrats are happy to see this happening.

It’s barely the second half of March. This is all going to get far more out of hand as we approach November.

If she seizes Trump’s property, which I now imagine she will (because Trump is weighing his limited options and is very deftly maneuvering her toward this result), she adds substantial further proof of her epic, over-the-top stupidity.

I am ever the optimist. All of these measures from the left are evidence of deep and growing desperation. They are losing badly as the general election clock starts to wind down.

Trump Tower in NYC is a condo building. Trump only owns his personal apartment, some unsold apartments (if any) he keeps in inventory, and retail/restaurant space.

The retail/restaurant space operates under leases, so AG James cannot put a lock on those properties.

Chances are that AG James is way in over her head in this matter. That may be why Trump is threatening to play hardball.

Trump knows his business. AG James has no frikken idea about it.

OR a shell company consortium could buy it for whatever NYC sells it for. The shell company would, of course, be run by someone close to DJT who would return it to him.

To collect assets located in a state other than the situs of the judgment, it would be my feeling that those assets cannot be used to pay the judgment unless the New York Judgment is transferred to the State which contains the assets.

To go after Mar-A-Lago, a judgment would need to be transferred to Florida. There are limited defenses to entering a foreign judgment but it would take a bit of time.

Ms. James would need a new boyfriend with a background in jurisdictional issues.

It is also why we stand by and do nothing while the nation is raped. We have become cowards. They have singled us out and cowed us into submission. If we had any guts we would reverse the tide and return the favor. We are stuck on lawful behavior against an enemy that has no such restrictions.

An article appears in these pages about an 82 year-old woman witnessing a male leering at 6 year-olds in a YMCA bathroom. A real society, in the face of lawfare adn justice gone dead, would quietly find a secret time to carve the creep up and make his dreams come true then never say a word.

The justice and gooberment we agreed to has failed to live up to the agreement.

Yes, even if he wins the appeals.

The Constitution 5th Amendment requires the government to pay ‘just compensation’ for property seized...............

She has her eye on one of the properties on Wall Street.

The business tenants in NYC want out of their leases because they can’t get their WFH employees to come back to work. A government takeover of a property would give them an out on their leases. After all, housing your business in a Trump property with the associated prestige is different from a government slum. The minute they take a building the Trump brand goes out the window.

If he does not pay the bond, that angry black woman will have him arrested and perp-walked.

That won’t happen. He has no legal obligation to post a bond, he only has to do it to stop collection of the judgment. It’s a civil case, not a criminal one. He’s not going to jail for failing to honor an obligation which doesn’t exist.

Uh, that is very unlikely to happen.

Especially given the “crimes” that he is “guilty” of. Who is going to want to risk it for doing business as usual? This will be a global problem regardless for NY. These assholes never ever look at the big picture.

I’ve read there has never been a bond of the type he needs issued in this large an amount. Could very well be a conspiracy to him.

Right. Not paying a civil judgment is not a crime.

However, logic and the English language have been absent for a long time, so one never knows, does one?

Now, disagreements are elevated to crimes.
