Yeah he’s odd. But awesome. Also big into new technology, which is why he’s been playing with AI since the early days.

I don’t think you need AI’s help to make bad music. There’s an interview with Reid on youtube he spends like an hour and a half talking about his experiments with AI. And he mostly aimed it at his own catalog, he didn’t want to steal, he wanted to learn. And he found it interesting and disturbing.

It’s for certain the president isn’t a AI creation.
Or, else they have a lot of work to do.

Is a lot of this modern poppish music that is now played EVERYWHERE in public places, AI?
It’s ALL Thump thump thump. Very little or no real guitar.

I can remember when some acoustic guitarists said electric guitars were toys for people who wanted to pretend they could play guitar.

Not the same. Electric guitars are played by humans versus computer generated AI crap. But I understand where you are coming from. Django’s fans called him a “Judas” when he switched from acoustic to electric, but they soon came around to accepting it.

Interesting thought. Don't agree, though.

On that subject, who would you say are the truly technical electric guitar players?

John McLaughlin?
George Harrison?
Jeff Beck?

Others?

The generation of AI tunes is a step further than I would like to see music go. I am just about to release an instrumental album (on 4/1) composed and arranged on MIDI software. In today’s musical environment. I consider MIDI to be an essential tool, along with decent sound modules, but using AI to generate the melodies and harmonies negates the artistry involved.

I believe the AI blues song at the link is better than the writer and people here are willing to admit.

Here's an example of a pop tune. Not my style but if I heard this in the background, I'd likely never question it.

Mind Games (Suno AI)

Be sure to watch the AI photo instructional at the link too. It's a good introductory tutorial.

I agree, and also wouldn’t question that it sounded like modern rock, but I couldn’t listen to it more than 45 seconds! To me, it sounded very “canned”, and not to my liking, but I have little appreciation for any “rock” tunes (with a few exceptions) that came after the mid 70’s to early 80’s.

I may take a look into it, but am very skeptical.

Here's a rock ballad about Jussie Smollett.

I clicked on the link and hit play: I didn’t make it past the first 15 seconds!

I forgot who said it, I seem to remember that it was some math professor, somewhere, anyway, he said something to the affect that you can determine the complexity of a lyrical rock tune by the number of different words that are used. In this case, you can extrapolate that concept to the melodic, rhythmic and harmonic content of the piece at that link, and immediately come to the conclusion that what AI generated it is a very simple offering, but replete with the garbage lyrics germane to the current state of rock, and seemingly aimed at the antifa crowd.

I grew up listening to the sounds of the Beatles, the Stones, and the virtuosic brilliance of the jazz legends such as Miles Davis, Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Don Ellis, Oscar Peterson, Joe Pass, and Dave Brubeck. In rock, bands like Cream, Led Zeppelin, Chicago, and The Allman Brothers, and of course Henderix, Clapton, and on bass James Jamerson, Ray Brown, Jack Bruce, and Jaco Pastorius.

As the results of what AI generates is dependent upon the training corpus used, barring coming across something innovative generated by AI, all it appears to be doing is rearranging what is already known, based upon a particular data set.

From what I’ve heard so far, currently AI is not in the same league as any of the above. It may improve, but I have my doubts.
