Graham breaks with Trump on national abortion ban

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) broke with former President Trump on Monday over Trump’s decision to back away from endorsing a national 15-week abortion ban, declaring that leaving the issue entirely to the states “runs contrary to an American consensus that would limit late-term abortions.”

“I respectfully disagree with President Trump’s statement that abortion is a states’ rights issue,” he said in a statement responding to Trump.

Trump on Monday reversed course on his plan to support a 15-week or 16-week national abortion ban amid pushback from top Republicans, who warned it would put the issue of abortion rights at the forefront of the 2024 campaign and hurt their chances to taking back the White House and the Senate majority.

Graham, however, argued that “the pro-life movement has always been about the wellbeing of the unborn child — not geography.”

I wonder who or what group pulls the majority of the blackmailer strings with Congres/USSC/Etc?
I remember reading of Hover’s massive blackmail files that he used like a hammer to stay in power at the FBI until he died in office. Somewhere, it was written that his long-time secretary destroyed/burned them all upon his death but that seems unlikely. The ability to wield that kind of unelected and unaccountable power over others is too tempting and lucrative for them to have been destroyed.
Like Epstein’s blackmail “insurance” files, I’m sure those are still existing somewhere too.
Does this corrupt cycle ever stop?

Yes, im sure you’ll convince everyone by November of this year. Do the leg work required to build support and dont try to make a national election a referendum on abortion.

I understand the political expedience of distancing the party from Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, but if you’re ideologically anti-abortion I can’t see how you’d take issue with Graham.

Because it federalizes the issue where the federal gov't has no authority.

Winning back morality has to be done on the local and state level, not in DC.

Look at how the nation changed from mostly supporting gun control laws in the 1960s to being against most new gun laws today.

We are winning the argument on abortion as well. Slowly and incrementally....the same way the left has achieved so much.

A national 15 week limit will be a campaign issue for libs who want to make it 26 weeks, then 30 weeks, etc. "Vote for me and we will expand a woman's right to choose" and those weak-minded will vote for them.

Take the issue away from the federal level and make the left fight in 50 state legislatures around the nation.

Kinda suspect that Graham know that DJT probably will put a quick stop to the Ukraine grift and willing to use other matters to sabotage him and maintain the status quo

If Biden wins it’s almost certain he will appoint a few SJCs and shits going to go the other way anyway

Despite voting for and raising $ for DJT twice I was sorely disappointed in some of his actions and statements but we need him back in office and it’s starting to look like he is getting better advice this time around

I will take Lindsey Graham seriously on the abortion issue when he comes out and makes the case that legalized abortion was only adopted in this country as a measure to control the black population. The fact that none of these so-called “strong pro-life” political hacks ever come out and say this exposes them as frauds.

The whole discussion shows how little support even amongst conservatives have for a “strict constructionist” approach to the Constitution. If you want a national abortion ban work for a Constitutional Amendment banning it. Any other approach is a hypocritical as the left’s approach in seeing in the text “textual penumbras” of permission. You can’t campaign for devolving power back to the states then turn around and undermine that with an overarching federal law bringing power back to the federal government.

I’m not disagreeing with the politics of it, but if you’re truly pro-life are you OK with abortions in ANY state or do you think the Constitution provides protection to fetuses regardless of the jurisdiction?

Stupid a$$hole!!! The whole point of the Dobbs decision was that this is an issue reserved for the STATES!!! Trump at least has somewhat of an understanding of federalism. Does Linda Gramnesty understand federalism? NO!!!!

Not arguing about the wisdom of having this argument be worked out within the states rather than at a federal level. I agree with that at this point.

But I do think it will be hard to keep it that way just because of the way the left fights. For instance, Indiana’s abortion ban has been challenged by jews claiming that their religion requires them to abort if that is what would make them happy, and the state’s religious freedom law makes it so that laws cannot restrict a person’s freedom to practice religion. Thus the abortion ban violates the religious freedom law.

And a state court agreed with them, paving the way for some really, really bad crap.

Satanists have also argued that killing young ones is their religion, so restricting abortion (and I would add restricting infanticide also, as long as their religion orders human murder) is a freedom of religion issue. Making it a First Amendment issue.

If that’s the route that the left is going to take via their 2 Beasts of Revelation, Muslims could also say that freedom of religion means they must be allowed to kill infidels as required by their religion.

I don’t see any way that this doesn’t end up before SCOTUS again, just because of the way the left is Hell-bent on getting rid of the sanctity of ALL human life, not just the pre-born. AFter all, that is the whole WEF schtick: get rid of 90% of the world’s population because people are no more valuable than cockroaches. It’s truly the same philosophy as Nazism and justifies methods that many are beginning to realize are real: killing off people with known-dangerous “vaccines”, vaccinating people against their will via mosquitos or injected foods, etc

I’m wondering if the Indiana case gives a way for the public to think about this issue as involving something deeper than just their demand for sex without consequences.

The dems are going to make the election about abortion because they know a lot of voters are Hell-bent on it. I’m wondering if that strategy can backfire if people are brought to realize just what Hell these legal arguments could truly unleash on America. ESPECIALLY if taken together with the reality that we are being invaded by peoples who don’t think like Americans do. The sanctity of ANY human life is not only legally fragile but also PRACTICALLY fragile.

When people realize that THEY are literally fetuses in the minds of Klaus Schwab and other powerful world leaders..... they might think twice about how glibly “fetuses” should be allowed to be killed.

Graham's position is of course the moral one, Trump's the pragmatic. Just a few years ago, freepers would have recognized this en mass, as a few have on this thread. A significant portion of Trump's base would support a federal 15-week ban, but such a platform issue would also motivate millions to vote against him, and could quite possibly cost us the House and Senate, as well as the Presidency.

Graham is not pro-life.

He just wants to ensure that Trump loses.

I’m imagining a meme where a woman says to her fetus: My religion says I can kill you, and the courts have upheld that freedom of religion.

And then a Muslim, MS-13 member, and Klaus Schwab replies to her by saying: My religion says I can kill YOU.

I’m not good at this kind of stuff, but there are people here who are.

I do think we’re going to have to deal with the abortion issue in some way. Neither the leftists nor media (but I repeat myself) are going to let us avoid that issue. If we’re forced to deal with it, we may as deal with it head-on.

Frankly, the 90%-Genocide-Crowd's best play is to cause a purposed global famine.

They can even blame Global Warming when they are done.

Trump must win the election. He already put three anti abortion judges in the Supremes. Leaving abortion up to the states is reasonable.
