New York City Gives 'Squatters' Free Lawyers

Residents in New York City who are accused of being squatters can qualify for free legal assistance, a housing lawyer told Newsweek on Wednesday.

Squatting has emerged as a top-button issue in recent weeks after incidents in New York captured headlines creating the impression of a crisis. However, experts have pointed out that cases of people establishing residency in properties they have no legal right to are rare.

Asked if someone accused of being a squatter with an eviction hearing in New York City qualifies for free legal assistance, Ami Shah, deputy director of citywide housing at Legal Services NYC, said: "Yeah, they do."

"That language is very laden and we're seeing more and more landlords claim people are squatters and as soon as you look at the facts and the law around their possession of that apartment, in fact, they do have legal rights," she added.

Well, yes. They are given legal rights to properties they have no legitimate right to.

“New York City Gives ‘Squatters’ Free Lawyers”

One thing that Leftists are doing a GREAT JOB with is trying to depopulate Blue Areas of conservatives. Sure some of these things they do also affect liberals, like effectively taking homes from legal owners without compensations (as in this story), but for most liberals getting rid of Trump is ALL THAT MATTERS.

Forget it Jake, it's NYC.

That town seceded from the human race long before the current thing.

I thought facts were for a jury or in some cases a judge to decide not some lawyer with Legal Service. The law may and probably does give a very broad definition of just who is a tenant. That does not make the claim of being one factual.

I was more referring to the laws which place all kinds of impediments in the way of quickly resolving the case and determining whether or not they are squatters. It’s not just the police, or the courts, but the laws themselves which are all kinds of messed up.

I’m gonna launch Squatters BnB so squatters in NY, California, and other bastions of liberalism can make money for their hard work squatting.

Tourists and business travelers will be able to save money while visiting by staying in discounted accommodations obtained by squatters.
