Victor Davis Hanson: Are Iran’s Nine Lives Nearing an End?
American Greatness ^ | 18 Apr, 2024 | Victor Davis Hanson

By unleashing war in the Middle East and targeting Israel, Iran may soon learn that Israel, or America, or both might retaliate for a half-century of its terrorist aggression.

The theocracy of Iran has been the world’s arch-embassy attacker over the last half century.

So it has zero credibility in crying foul over Israel’s April 1 attacks on its “consulate” in Damascus and the killing of Iran’s kingpin terrorists of the Revolutionary Guard Corps there.

Remember, the world was first introduced to the Iranian ayatollahs by their violent takeover of the U.S. embassy in Tehran in 1980.

Iranian surrogates next bombed the American embassy in Beirut and the Marine barracks in 1983.

In fact, Iran has attacked US and Israeli diplomatic posts off-and-on for decades, most recently in 2023, when Iran helped plan an attack on the US embassy in Baghdad.

For this reason and several others, Iran’s justification for sending 170 drones, 30 cruise missiles, and 120 ballistic missiles into Israel on the grounds that Israel had bombed an Iranian diplomatic post is completely ridiculous.

One, Iran has never honored diplomatic immunity. Instead, it habitually attacks and kills embassy personnel and blows up diplomatic facilities across the world.

Two, on April 1, the Israelis attacked a pseudo-“consulate” in Damascus which was hosting grandees of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps as they planned terrorist attacks on Israel.

Without Iran, the Middle East might have had a chance to use its enormous oil and natural gas wealth to lift its 500 million people out of poverty rather than to be mired in constant tribal and religious anti-Israeli, anti-American, and anti-Western terrorism.

During the Iraq War, Iran’s Shiite terrorists and its massive supplies of deadly shaped-charge explosive devices killed hundreds of Americans. It routinely hijacks container ships in the Straits of Hormuz...

As previously mentioned, I’ll have you eating your words.

Twice.

The anticipation is delicious.

In one form or another, I think I’ve asked myself the exact question as the title to this piece a hundred times.

Sounds like shilling for the Iranian / ham ass axis to me:

Israel illegally attacks Iran’s consulate, clearly an act of war. Iran uses Article 51 to retaliate to ensure it is not illegally attacked again. In a world where justice is served and Article 51 fulfills its purpose, this should end it, the score, one Israeli illegal attack with 15 dead Iranians, Iran warns all parties of its coming legal invocation of Article 51 with no resultant deaths.

Should Israel retaliate, illegally again, to Iran’s just use of Article 51, Israel has just committed another act of war which entitles Iran to another just invocation of Article 51.

You know where this leads. Israel committing a string of illegal acts of war resulting in Iran committing the resultant string of legal invocations of Article 51.

Tit for tat to regional war.”

Yeah, absolutely right. Those all are facts. Had Israel attacked a Jordanian consulate or a Mexican consulate, had Iran attacked an Israeli consulate or a Japanese consulate, ALL would have been acts of war. ALL could have resulted in legal invocation of Article 51. Good God, Israel isn’t the only country in the world that can invoke Article 51 when attacked. That’s all you’ve got?!? You’ve got to be f’n kidding me!

Like I said, stop the BS lies about me. I am in favor of ANY country being able to use Article 51 when attacked. I am not shilling for anyone but the American taxpayer and innocent children being massacred. You celebrate the mass murder of children and want to join in. There are Islamic murdering scum in Africa who murder innocent Christian children. They are just as bad as the monsters you support who do slaughter innocent children by the thousands. I denounce those Islamists just as I denounce your genocidal masters. You will find any scum in the world that you can call my attention to who commit these heinous crimes I will also denounce.

So, chickening out I see. I know it wasn’t your conscious getting to you. When are you going? Afraid of Hezbollah? I thought so.

You seem a little confused. Israel didn’t bomb the consulate or embassy. They hit an IRGC building next to it, killing members of the IRGC and Hizbullah. It was a hit on a military target, killing the Iranian general behind the October 7th attack. Iran and its proxies have been attacking Israel since October 7th. Nothing Israel did was illegal, since Iran has been at war with Israel since 1979 and Syria since 1948

Yes, we did put him in power. When Jimmy Carter became President, he preferred the Ayatollah Khomeini instead of the Shah. So, in essence, we did remove the Shah. The Shah departed Iran on the 16th of January 1979. The Ayatollah Khomeini arrived in Iran, 20 January 1979. Nothing has been as peaceful as it was previously to that point.
