Dramatic moment SWAT rams house with a huge TANK and launch raid after three US Marshals were shot dead and five cops injured in bloody standoff with gunman: Gunman killed as boy, 17, and woman arrested

Video footage showed the dramatic moment a SWAT team rammed its way into a North Carolina house after three officers on a U.S. Marshals Task Force serving a warrant were killed.

The officers were serving a felon wanted for possessing a firearm Monday at the home, police said.

The officers were first shot at by the wanted suspect as they approached the suburban home in Charlotte. Three officers were killed and five more were hurt. The cops were able to shoot dead the felon in the front yard, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings said.

A second person then fired on officers from inside the home where a high-powered rifle was found, Jennings said.

A woman and a 17-year-old boy were found in the home after a three-hour standoff that included armored vehicles crashing into the suburban home in a tree-lined neighborhood and tearing off doorways and windows.

The two are being questioned, Jennings said.

'Today is an absolute tragic day for the city of Charlotte and for the profession of law enforcement,' Jennings said, according to WRAL. 'Today we lost some heroes that are out to just simply try to keep our community safe.'

In situations like this where you have a known violent felon there is not much you can control. You probably won't know where they are, and if you get word they are at a known residence you have to move quickly. This operation was done at 1:30pm, which is odd. Usually raids are done early in the morning just before sunrise when cops can be relatively sure the suspect is either tired or asleep. The timing of this raid may indicate they got word the suspect was at the house and had to move quicky.

Generally, cops don't want to wait until the suspect is out of the house because they lose almost all control. You're introducing innocent bystanders into the equation. You have much less control over the background if rounds are fired. Would it be great if every suspect walked alone in an empty parking lot and you could just walk up and take him down? Sure, that would be great, but it rarely happens. Suspects go to schools and grocery stores and gas stations and bars and they mix with people who may also be carrying guns. Long story short, in operations like this, cops put themselves at a greater risk in favor of diminishing the risk to other people. That's the way it should be, IMHO.

If you approach a suspect at their house, you are most likely already familiar with the layout of the house, all the points of ingress/egress, their family members, their accomplices, and possible weapons in the house. You can cover the back and the sides of the dwelling and have ambulances standing by in the vicinity if needed. If you try to apprehend them outside the house, you lose those capabilities.

Were mistakes made in this instance? Yes. But the alternative could have been worse.

You’re missing a huge point here. You don’t have known, wanted felons “under surveillance.” You don’t follow them around, you arrest them. They have a warrant signed by a judge. You put them in cuffs, you don’t wait for them to commit more crime. People are throwing around terms here that do not apply.

Who was it from inside the house that started firing after the perp was dead on the lawn. That is why they went in with the machinery.

Not just a violent felon but one wanted on weapons related charges.

Again, why go after the violent guy with the guns within a structure/home where the suspect very well could have access to lots of weapons, ammo, cover etc etc??

Did you note this operation that you apparently agree with has left dead cops all over the place?

Also the perp was quite efficient to down 3 marshalls by himself, most hood rats are not that great a shot.

This incident will be reviewed and the pros and cons of what occurred will be discussed and reported. It will be an interesting read.

Well how did that work out for them?

You say the cops don't conduct surveillance on wanted and or violent people? lol...

We need to be looking at how to equip civilian drones with charges sufficient to punch through top armor. I suspect the power-mad types who thought these tanks purchased for anti-civilian use are having second thoughts as they see what the drone revolution is doing on the battlefield.

As this story develops, it appears to me the most critical factor MAY have been that the original suspect had backup.

This may have been updated / corrected, but my present understanding of the timeline (in brief) is:

LEO’s arrive at original suspect’s address.

Confrontation / shots exchanged.

Original suspect (O.S.) down — at this point were any LEO’s significantly hurt? Possibly not.

LEO’s approach downed O.S.

Shooter or shooters in house open fire on the LEO’s, mortally injuring some, injuring others. Were the LEO’s grouped tightly around the O.S.?? Attempting to aid the O.S., B4 shots from house are made?

Standoff, further gunfire. Possible attempted recues of downed LEO’s , and more casualties among the LEO’s?

Standoff continues.

Tank rams house, suspects in house eventually captured or surrender.

Revisions likely?

>>That would not have been a good idea.

The actor had Home Field advantage of cover and unknown arms.

I’ll say it again: cops put more risk on themselves in order to mitigate the risk to the general public. I’m really not sure what you’re not getting here.

I did not say that at ALL. You are very dishonest. And not too bright when it comes to kicking in doors. But I will allow you to believe that you know how to conduct these raids better than the US Marshals. LOL.

LOL! Lemme guess. You also disagree with the landings on Normandy and Utah beach because US service members were killed. You could’ve planned it better. My god, what kind of life do you lead where it’s all unicorn farts and rainbows and nobody ever gets killed by evil violent people? Go back to your safe space. You must be a college professor who never leaves campus.
