Daily Wire obtains gag order against Candace Owens despite Ben Shapiro wanting debate

The right-leaning news and commentary site Daily Wire obtained a gag order against former host Candace Owens despite co-founder Ben Shapiro claiming he wanted to publicly debate her about Israel and antisemitism, according to a report.

The Daily Wire secretly sought to muzzle Owens through a private arbitrator after she left the company in March, wrote Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Glenn Greenwald in his Locals newsletter on Thursday.

The gag order was approved as Shapiro and Daily Wire CEO Jeremy Boreing were publicly negotiating with Owens on an agreed-upon venue, date and time for a debate that had been widely anticipated by readers and viewers on social media.

Boreing told Greenwald that his report “is inaccurate to the point of being false.”

He did not elaborate.

“I’m sure you can appreciate how fraught a high-profile break-up like this is. For that reason, we are trying to resolve our issues with Candace privately,” Boreing is quoted as telling Greenwald.

Owens told Greenwald she “can neither confirm nor deny” his report.

“I wish I could comment on this but I can’t.” she said:

The Post has sought comment from Daily Wire and Owens.

According to Greenwald, the gag order bars Owens from making any comments that could disparage Daily Wire or be perceived as harming its reputation.

An arbitrator agreed with Daily Wire’s contention that Owens’ social media posts on X challenging Shapiro to a debate while questioning his views on Israel were “disparaging,” Greenwald reported.

Two hypocritical attention whores - there’s no room for the other in either one of their massive puffed up egos.

It’s probably just a standard (or slightly more exhaustive than standard) non-defamation clause and non-disclosure agreement, which given the seemingly acrimonious split the DW decided to pursue via their arbitration clause.

It shouldn’t necessarily stop them from debating an issue. I’d guess the DW would want certain details about their contract, salary info, costs, ownership, financial backers, advertisers and other business topics off the front pages. They probably don’t want, nor would I want to hear, any ad hominem crap about race or religion thrown out into the public.

I don’t know what specifically caused the split. PBD suggested it may be that she had a 3 year contract and they didn’t want to renew. She didn’t do herself any favors hanging out with Kanye - that guy has an admitted psychological problem and hope he gets help. I’m not a fan of his music so much, but often he says what needs to be said, but sometimes he says really stupid things. I put it down to his disease, and I’m sure many people have been trying to mess with his mind and manipulate him… but he said some not so nice things about Jews and invited that idiot Fuentes as his +1 to Mar a Lago, which caused Trump some bad press. I am sure Shapiro was not happy that she continues to travel around with Kanye and can understand why he wouldn’t want to have association with those other two.

In all I have really liked Candace. Cute as a button and well spoken. I disagree with her on the Israel/Palestinian topic and think she’s missing a more thorough understanding of the history. Israel hasn’t been perfect, but the Palestinians have never negotiated in good faith for a peaceful solution. The country used to be pretty far left, almost socialist, and it was the left that made peace with Egypt and Jordan and invited the PLO to lands they control to negotiate a 2 state solution under Clinton. When Arafat tore up the Oslo agreement at the last minute after years of negotiations and used his physical location to start the intifada campaign of suicide bombs of buses and discos and cafe and pizza shops the people understandably flipped from peacenik left to security minded right, so to speak. That’s an oversimplification but generally what happened.

It’s tragic what happened on Oct 7 and that Hamas used 15+ years to fortify for war instead of developing a society to benefit their people. It’s tragic that Israel now has to go in and destroy all those underground fortifications that Hamas purposely put under civilian areas. It’s tragic so many innocents die - this conflict should have been settled 25 years ago so that both people could be safe and prosperous. But I blame Hamas and the PLO not Israel for that. And I don’t know what Israel should do after Oct 7 they have no choice but to remove Hamas and dismantle their underground war machine.

Every war would be over in a second if one side surrenders unconditionally.

If Israel surrendered, Hamas would move in and kill every Jew.
But, you're right, it wouldn't be a war. It would be a slaughter.

When I’m flipping through the radio stations and I hear Ben on, I keep on flipping.

My point is Hamas started the war. Why are protesters mad at Israel?

Why are protesters mad at Israel?

It's no secret. They're telling us why.

They think that Israel's response of out of proportion, that it's harming civilians.

Ok. Makes sense when you put it that way. But… The Daily wire has an opinion and it is under no obligation to publish conflicting opinions if it chooses not to. Disparaging your previous employer is a way to kill your career. Shapiro died by want his company trashed. This has all the drama of a bad divorce.

The response isn’t too harsh though. Is society going to legitimize a war tactic where an aggressor hides behind its citizens and cries foul when they get killed? Sorry. The answer is no because it has to be no. There is no choice if you think about it. If such tactics become the norm attacks will continue. It’s adult time.
