PARIS, April 6 (AFP) - France's foreign ministry lodged an official complaint with Israel Friday after Israeli forces opened fire on a "diplomatic convoy" evacuating 60 EU citizens from a Palestinian refugee camp in the West Bank.
"Israeli tanks launched machine-gun fire at the vehicles in the convoy in the middle of the road as passengers boarded as part of an evacuation operation conducted in coordination with the Israeli army" from the Dheishe refugee camp near Bethlehem, the ministry said in a statement.
"Following the shooting by Israeli soldiers, in which a French television crew came under fire, we have lodged a protest with the Israeli authorities and we reiterate to them our demand that the security of journalist teams in the area be assured," the ministry added.
Earlier the EU citizens involved were described by organisers of the evacuation efforts as pro-Palestinian pacifists, seeking to escape the refugee camp surrounded by Israeli troops.
British, Dutch, French, German, Italian and Swiss activists were said to be among the group, accompanied by diplomats from several countries.
In a separate incident Friday, Israeli troops threw five stun grenades at a group of 40 journalists in front of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's besieged headquarters in the West Bank town of Ramallah.
No injuries were reported in the incident, which came as the journalists pulled up to cover Arafat's scheduled meeting with US peace envoy Anthony Zinni.

With over 600,000 Jews in France, I am sure some of those on trial will be Jewish. How come all Jews in France didn't throw in with the conservatives who have been trying to block immigration from North Africa for years? I know "diversity" and "multiculturalism" is a big thing for many Jews but there are limits. Think it has dawned on those on the left what they did to themselves?

Though I'm happy to let the French have Jerry Lewis, I'm no defender of theirs, in fact with their fine history I pretty much hate their guts.
That being said, I wish people would know the meaning of the word semite before throwing around the term anti-semite.

Assuming that you knew the actual meaning, were you arguing that since anti-semite is commonly used to refer to anyone who hates Jewish people (although it seems to be increasingly more common to use the term to refer to anyone a Jewish person or anyone who claims to speak on behalf of Jewish people, hates) that the use of the term for that purpose is valid? If this is the case I assume you will begin using the term entitlement instead of welfare and will substitute all the politically-correct, commonly-used terms for their accurate and politically-incorrect counterparts.
Also, if you would be so kind, please show me where the protesters were attacking the Israeli people and not merely the policies of the Israeli government.
If you acknowledge they're only criticizing the policies of the Israeli government and, by doing so, have branded themselves as anti-semitic (your definition) then I hope you're happy to know that (using your logic) you were anti-american if you criticized any policies of the U.S. government under Clinton.

Hmm.. people are regularly denied medical attention
Hospitals are required by law to render emergency medical attention, regardless of ability to pay. By law, non-payment of medical bills cannot affect one's credit rating. Our communities are full of free or low-cost medical clinics, private and government-supported. By voluntary policy, most hospitals do not aggressively pursue patients who cannot or will not pay their accumulated bills. The difference is made up by those who can and do.

In California they have lavished money on public schools, with dismal results. The share of Federal dollars to public schools is still fairly small, so military spending has little to do with it either. Some of the real causes for declining school performance: de-emphasis of basic language and math skills, lack of discipline, excessive administrative overhead, bi-lingual education, and of course teacher's unions! By the way, there is no such word as 'prescidence'.
