Sometime back in the 1930s, before the era of computer animation, there was a movie made called, "The Mummy".
The plot was a simple enough story concerning a group of archeologists who uncover a tomb of an ancient Egyptian prince named Imhotep who had been buried alive almost four thousand years before.
In the tomb, along with the mummy, is the "Scroll of Thoth" which when read aloud can re-animate the dead. Needless to say, one of the young archeologists makes the mistake of reading the scroll and immediately goes off his rocker.
We now jump forward ten years and once again the same team of archeologists, less the one who went insane but plus the lead archeologist's daughter, have once again returned to the tomb of Imhotep. However now the ancient one has discarded his covering of bandages and is living as a mysterious Egyptian named Ardath Bey played in the movie by Boris Karloff).
The plot from here on concerns how Ardath Bey who thinks that Helen (The chief archeologist's daughter) is a reincarnation of his long lost love, the famous Princess Anckesen-Amon, tries to get her to play the animal with two backs.
There were some scary parts in the film, and when I first saw it as a child it gave me many sleepless nights. However that was many years ago, and as I have grown older I have come to realize that there are much scarier things happening in real life, and the fear of a man wrapped in a bundle of dirty bandages seems ludicrous. But now I fear that those sleepless nights are about to return.
This morning when I switched on C-SPAN I came face to face with Imhotep in his new form. This time it was not Boris Karloff playing the part of the prince's new persona, but a man called George Mc Govern.
Sure, he had the same gaunt and haggard look of Ardath Bey and his suit looked just as old and worn, but now he was not wearing a fez.
I have no idea which of the democraps read the Scroll of Thoth" aloud, and we will probably never know as they are nearly all insane in one form or another.
However I think I know the reason and that is a run at the presidency in the next general election.
The present day group of contenders don't appear to be able to make a dent in Dubya's popularity. But by raising a long forgotten socialist from his tomb may just give them a slim chance.
Just imagine how many dead voters he will be able to drag along on his coat tails. Should you happen to pass by any graveyard in Chicago at night you may yet be able to hear the long mournful sound of former dems singing their national anthem, namely: "Happy Days Are Here Again".
Presumably from one of the famous Nordic-Egyptian Dynasties
This morning he looked as though he needed them
