People on Twitter are calling out President Donald Trump for failing to recite the Apostles’ Creed at the funeral for former President George H. W. Bush on Wednesday.
Footage from the event shows much of the church, including the former presidents seated with Trump, standing to recite the profession of faith.

NO. I have quoted the verses but do not repetitively repeat or chant the entire prayer. I have been in services where it is done and it seems like a ritual. EXACTLY what the Lord does NOT want. The Lord prayed as an EXAMPLE on HOW to pray. I don’t think it was intended to be a prayer repeated over and over again to the point where the profound truth of His prayer is lost in a ritual practice.
Lutherans use a version of it as well.
Somebody has misinformed you about this. If I were you, I'd get back to whoever it was who told you this, and inform them that is the oldest historically attested creed, older than the Nicaean, and in its simplest form was part of the summary profession of Faith for Baptism by the late 2nd century.
People who try to drive a wedge between the Lord and His Apostles and their successors, have a significant lacuna in their grasp of history.
I believe that President Trump saw the version of the Apostles Creed in the program and the wording that said,
“He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
On the third day he rose again.”
The proper wording should have been,
“He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.”
I think both he and Melania did not like the version that had the words, “He descended into hell.” I was troubled by that wording when I heard it.

Those are older words.
I am stunned that so many of those posting on this thread missed the phrase that was used at the National Cathedral funeral. You used properly the phrase, “he descended to the dead.” At the funeral, the phrase “he descended into hell.” was used. No religion that I know of uses that phrase. That phrase was added to the Creed around AD 390. There is no textual basis for it in the New Testament. It was ended in the 20th century because it confuses the realm of the dead with the realm of eternal punishment and damnation. Christ may have suffered for the sins of mankind, but he did not suffer in the realm of hell.

That’s the one phrase. Evedince of every other part of the creed can be found in scripture.

They clearly made a decision not to recite it. They had their reasons and that’s good enough for me. No explanation, apology or repercussions need follow. Enough with the Creed police. Trump isn’t a showboater. Let’s continue to ignore the idiots and celebrate our President.
