ROME — The Vatican’s foreign minister said the Holy See has a much better relationship with the Biden administration than it did with “the previous administration” in an interview published Wednesday.
Speaking with the Jesuit-run America magazine, Archbishop Paul Gallagher said that “our exchanges with the Biden administration are frequent, particularly through the U.S. embassy to the Holy See.”
While the Vatican does not always respond in the way that they would wish, “it is a very positive relationship,” the archbishop stated, because neither party has any hesitation to approach the other.
“So compared with the previous administration, it’s easier now,” Gallagher said in reference to the Trump presidency, adding that “I think we found that we didn’t see quite as eye-to-eye with the previous administration as we do with this one.”
While the Holy See has difficulties with the Biden administration as well, “there are other issues on which we can work very well. Most of the positions, I would say, are issues on which both sides recognize the importance and sometimes the sensitivity of the issues,” Gallagher said, such as the matters of immigration and climate change.
In the interview, Archbishop Gallagher went on to underscore the importance of the Holy See’s recent accession to the 2015 Paris Climate Accord.

ROME (Reuters) - The Vatican’s number two said on Thursday after talks with Mike Pompeo that the two sides’ positions on China remained far apart and firmly asserted the Holy See’s right to pursue an accord with Beijing denounced by the U.S. Secretary of State.
Pompeo met Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin and Foreign Minister Archbishop Paul Gallagher on Thursday on a visit to Rome marked by Vatican irritation over Pompeo’s public criticism of a Holy See accord with Beijing on the appointment of bishops.
Vatican officials have said they were “surprised” by Pompeo’s comments, made last month, and particularly that they were published in a conservative U.S. Catholic publication that has called Pope Francis’ pontificate a failure.
Parolin, second only to the pope in the Vatican hierarchy, spoke to reporters on the sidelines of a book launch on Thursday night. He was asked if the positions were still distant.
“Yes, even though the purpose of the meeting was not to bring the positions closer,” he said.
In an article and a series of tweets in September Pompeo accused the Vatican of putting its “moral authority” at risk if it renewed an agreement with China over the appointment of bishops. It sparked a minor diplomatic crisis. . .

I’ve turned my back on the Catholic church at least until such time as the heretic running it is removed by clerics or by god. Either way, this guy is not even catholic and is persecuting the clergy that asks him to live up the the tenets of the faith.
