Prayer for My Mother
Free Republic ^ | 4/22/2024 | Ducttape45

I'd like to request prayer for my mother. She is 88, in declining health, and has extreme dementia. I got a text from my sister saying she also now has a urinary tract infection. My father went through almost the exact same thing in the weeks prior to his passing. I know her time is short and I only ask for her to be able to slip quietly and peacefully into the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ. She claimed Christ as her Savior before her mind started to go so I have to believe I will see her in Heaven some day, as well as my father.

Thank you.

If she has accepted Christ, her future is secure and happy. Pray for her days to be painless and that she will have the knowledge that she’s surrounded by family and friends.

Our mom passed last Monday at age 99, at home where she wanted to be. She was relatively healthy until her last week.

She got saved when she was 14, and was eager to see her husband, son and sisters.

The funeral was full of rejoicing, laughter, and hymn singing. “When We All Get To Heaven” sung by 200 people is chilling — in a good way.

I will pray that your mother will be comfortable and peaceful, knowing that she’s loved here on earth, before she sees Jesus’ face.

Praying for both you and your mother. This is the hardest part of life, losing those we love.

It was really scary today when my sister went to visit her. She said that when she came into her room, she was laying on the bed staring at the ceiling. She called her name three times, and my sister was almost ready to call us all to tell us she had passed away when my mom finally responded to her.

My Dad, God bless his heart, was as typical of an Irishman as one can get. Quick tempered (he slugged an Army officer during the Korean War), never putting up any grief from anyone, and was a stern disciplinarian. When he was in the hospital in the days leading up to his passing, he told the nurses in no uncertain terms, "I ain't dying in some BLEEPing hospital." He was in the last stage of dementia so we gave him a pass for the occasional curse word.

On the day of his passing, he was allowed to go home where he spent some quality time with Mom. When she went to rest he was talking with my brother and he asked him who won the latest Cub's game. When he was told the Cubbies won, he said, "that's good, that's good" and then he left for Glory. I was so glad he got to see the Cubs win the World Series in 2016!

He was as great a grandfather as one could ask for. He was gentle, kind, compassionate, almost exactly opposite of the father I knew growing up, he had changed that much. He loved going to church services in the senior living center they lived in. A black minister held services there and he made a profession of faith, but he never spoke of it widely. He was very introverted, like me, but he had his favorite gospel songs that the church choir sang when he was able to make it to the service.

I will pray for her. I know you already have missed her. My mother died at 88 years old and she died of the same issues.

I lost her about 3 years before she died because she slowly slipped away into herself and was rarely aware of her surroundings. It was so sad because she did not know my father died. About 3 weeks before her death, she had a lucid moment and asked me out of the clear blue sky, “did Dad die”?

I will never forget that. They are in heaven together again.

It's been tough, no doubt.

She got to the point where we had to take her bird to someone to find him a new home. She completely forgot she had him and my sister found him shut up in a closet. Poor thing was starving and hadn't had any water for a long period of time.

She doesn't remember Dad, and none of the rest of us for that matter. When my daughter visited she asked her several times who she was. So yeah, the person I knew is almost no longer here.

But I look forward to seeing her and Dad again in Heaven.

That’s a fabulous post. Thank you for it. I think it’s good for us to recount these memories/happenings of our loved ones.

Your father and my husband sound like two of a kind - didn’t suffer fools gladly. My husband was former AF and Hungarian, first generation American and would give you his opinion whether asked for it or not. Introverted he wasn’t. I didn’t dare ask how he behaved in the hospital - LOL.

We had a flying club in OC, Southern CA and he had a super reputation as a business owner, pilot and instructor. When he was in the hospital and then passed, I informed all our close friends and fellow pilots in CA..we had moved from CA to GA so he never saw any of them after he became ill.

One of our pilots/flight instructors WITH an aeronautical degree wrote and said that my husband was his mentor. What a compliment - this was the kind of guy who told you how to build a watch if you asked him for the time. My husband would have been pleased hear that. They had great respect for one another.

I printed all the emails I received and had our daughter read them at the memorial at the National Cemetery in Canton, GA. I couldn’t do it but she did a good job...

Adjusting can be difficult but the good memories never leave us. It is well that we know they had faith that would take them home.

My prayers for the peace that passes all understanding to guard your hearts and minds as you process this loss of your mother. My own mom went through this last year and I praise the Lord that I was able to be with her in her hospice room as she went with the angels to meet the Lord. We “sorrow not as others who have no hope”, but look forward to the blessed reunion with our loved ones in eternity with our Savior and Redeemer. How I long for that day!
