Just tuned into watch "Dinotopia" on ABC tv. Within the first half hour I learned that on the island of "Dinotopia" * No weapons are allowed -- "Rule 3" of the island is that no weapons are allowed for any purpose not even for self-defense. * Every person on Dinotopia is a vegetarian (this after one of the stranded kids asks to eat a steak, a burger or some chicken). Well, I saw enough. PC values and ideology promoted at every step of the way. At 9 I'll watch the X-Files instead.

Sewage Pump Named for Dave Barry GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - Shivering in subzero temperatures, columnist Dave Barry looked up at the newly christened Dave Barry Lift Station No. 16 and offered this advice: ``If anything ever goes wrong with this station, call the mayor.'' Grand Forks officials dedicated the sewage pump station Wednesday to Barry, who had poked fun at the city and its Minnesota neighbor, East Grand Forks, for referring to themselves as the ``Grand Cities.'' The column prompted a letter-writing campaign, capped by an offer from Grand Forks Mayor Mike Brown to name a lift station after ...

The president of the National Education Association has made good on a promise to advance the interests of homosexuals through the nation's largest teacher's union. When the National Education Association (NEA) meets in its annual convention this summer, the group will consider a resolution that would enthusiastically promote homosexuality in classrooms across America. The proposed resolution sounds like something that would be published by a gay advocacy group. It suggests bringing gay themes into classroom materials, setting up gay employees as role models for the students, even bringing representatives of gay organizations into the schools. "What we're talking about is ...

Amazing New Technology Illuminates Secrets of Ancient Past LONDON (Reuters) - Secrets from ancient history, including money-back guarantees from a Sumerian slave trader 5,000 years ago, have been revealed using state-of-the-art imaging techniques, New Scientist magazine said on Wednesday. Tom Malzbender of Hewlett-Packard Laboratories maps the texture of rough surfaces using digital photographs reproduced as computer graphics. He has recreated inscriptions on badly eroded Babylonian tablets to illuminate the past. His tool is a lightproof plastic dome with a digital camera mounted at the top and 50 computer-controlled flash bulbs arranged to light up the subject from a number of ...

Cross-party defector loses runoff for House Smyrna lawmaker left GOP to try to hold seat, but his term as a Democrat proves brief. Big money and the governor's clout couldn't save party-switching state Rep. Randy Sauder in his bid to return to the Legislature. Political rookie Ginger Collins stomped the Smyrna Republican-turned-Democrat in a runoff for state House District 29, outpolling the three-term lawmaker by nearly 3 to 1 --- 5,096 to 1,872. Sauder lost despite heavy spending by the state Democratic Party --- which badly wanted to win the suburban district --- and campaigning on his behalf by Gov. ...

Veterans gathered yesterday to mark the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. While Royal Air Force stations across the country held commemorative services, Biggin Hill airfield in Kent was preparing to put vintage Spitfires and Hurricanes back into the sky. On Sunday, a fly-past at Biggin Hill will pay tribute to the air and ground crews. But some Britons, it seems, do not know what these men and women were fighting for just 60 years ago. A survey of 1,000 people for The Mirror newspaper showed that many Britons need a history lesson. Only half of those aged 18 ...

Hogan sues WCW for defamation By Jim Dyer Atlanta Journal-Constitution Staff Writer The verbal bashing that Hulk Hogan received after winning the world championship title during this summer's "Bash at the Beach" match wasn't the typical in-the-camera, veins-bulging-from-the-neck diatribe his opponents usually spewed. It was personal, unscripted, and, according to Hogan, defamatory. The blond-locked behemoth, considered by many as the "Babe Ruth of professional wrestling," filed a lawsuit in Fulton Superior Court claiming that the words of Vince Russo, creative director of World Championship Wrestling Inc., in Smyrna, "placed [Hogan] in a false light" and damaged his character and image. ...

ABC's "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?"
Just turned on ABC's "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" The fellow sitting there in the hot seat had the following tough question. (He had already used his "50-50" to eliminate two choices.) Article 1 of the U.S. Constitution establishes which branch of government? 1. executive 3. legislative Now, get this. The fellow sat there for a long time, unable to answer the question! And he said that he had even gone to law school. And could not answer the above question! Remember, he had already used his "50-50" to eliminate two choices! And said that the "50-50" didn't help, ...

NBC TV World Series Pregame Show | 10-27-99 | self
I watched the "Pregame" show on NBC. A few minutes ago they had Hannah Storm talking. In the background I could hear the start of a familiar refrain: "Oh Say Can You SEE!" The National Anthem had begun at Yankee Stadium. Storm kept talking over it, in order to cut away to a segment where the "Commissioner" of Major League Baseball Bud Selig announced some meaningless youth program.
