  • Romney's Florida Robo-Calls (VANITY)

The upcoming FL presidential preference primary cannot come soon enough. My home phone is being spammed with junk taped telephone calls on behalf of Mitt Romney. We just received the third call in the last four hours on behalf of Romney. One call featured Bay Buchanan. another was Romney himself. My wife answered the third and hung up so quickly we don't know who recorded that tape. I accept that Gov Romney believes that he is in a tight race, but this is ridiculous. And, frankly, counter-productive. I really hate being spammed with junk phone calls in this fashion. And...

WASHINGTON, May 16, 2006 – The National Guard has supported operations at the U.S. southern border for years, and the new plan announced by President Bush last night will simply expand those operations, Defense Department officials said here today. H Steven Blum (right), chief of the National Guard Bureau, and Paul McHale, assistant secretary of defense for homeland defense, address a joint news conference on border security in Washington, May 16. House Majority Leader John A. Boehner refused yesterday to rule out compromising with the Senate to expand the House border security bill to include a guest-worker program or provisions that opponents call "amnesty." "Let's wait and see what the Senate can produce," he told reporters yesterday when asked whether House Republicans would reject the Senate Judiciary Committee's proposal to allow the estimated 12 million illegal aliens now in the U.S. to seek citizenship after paying a fine.

The Pentagon hopes to reap billions of dollars to pay for ships, aircraft and other weapons by doubling or tripling health insurance premiums paid by military retirees and driving 600,000 of those pensioners out of the military medical system, charges a coalition of veterans’ organizations.

New data released yesterday show that in the past year, home sales in the Washington region have declined sharply, the inventory of unsold homes is up significantly, and prices have flattened and, in some cases, fallen. The trend is most striking in Northern Virginia, where most of the region's growth has occurred, but it is evident almost everywhere.

Election 2004 Disabled vet vote in play for 2004 Democrats court the group after GOP leaders balk at expanding benefits for them. By SARA FRITZ Published September 27, 2003 WASHINGTON - As the 2004 election year approaches, Democrats are making a strong bid for the support of a traditional GOP constituency: disabled military veterans. Democrats in Congress seized an opportunity to appeal to veterans recently after the Bush administration indicated it does not support a proposed improvement in disability benefits. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has told members of Congress that he will ask President Bush to veto the measure if...

LONDON (Reuters) - Technology buffs have cracked music publishing giant Sony Music's elaborate disc copy-protection technology with a decidedly low-tech method: scribbling around the rim of a disk with a felt-tip marker. Internet newsgroups have been circulating news of the discovery for the past week, and in typical newsgroup style, users have pilloried Sony for deploying "hi-tech" copy protection that can be defeated by paying a visit to a stationery store. "I wonder what type of copy protection will come next?" one posting on alt.music.prince read. "Maybe they'll ban markers." Sony did not immediately return calls seeking comment. Major music...
