A Christian university in the north Georgia mountains is taking a very public stand in affirmation of the U.S. Constitution and the belief that we are one nation under God. “We recognize the hand of God upon our country throughout our history,” said Emir Caner, president of Truett McConnell University. The university, affiliated with the Georgia Baptist Convention, recently held a celebration of faith and freedom featuring Fox News Channel host Oliver North and your friendly neighborhood commentator. It was one of the most incredible displays of patriotism I have seen in a long time — complete with a moving...

A new film on Jesus, told from an Islamic perspective, has drawn mixed reactions from the Christian community over its claim that Jesus did not die on the cross but was replaced by Judas Iscariot. “The Messiah” – written, produced and directed by Iranian filmmaker Nader Talebzadeh - was filmed in the Islamic Republic of Iran with Iranian actors to portray how Muslims understand the life of Jesus based on the teachings of the Qur’an and the Gospel of Barnabas – a book not included in the Christian Bible and in which the Prophet Mohammed appears. The movie features two...

On December 21, 2007 Ergun Caner sent me an announcement about the name change of Liberty Theological Seminary to Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary. I gave it only passing notice. From all that I know, Liberty may be the finest Fundamentalist seminary around and I don't care how many times they extract and reinsert the name "Baptist" on their letterhead. When Caner became dean of the seminary in 2004 he took the name "Baptist" out. The rationale given for reinserting it I found mildly amusing, but again, not worth much more than a raised eyebrow. He wrote, [S]ince 2004, much...

Ever since today's free world first crossed swords with regenerated Islamic imperialism, the word cancer has been a predictable metaphor in the lexicons of many pundits. We can't ignore it and we can't argue with it, they say; we've got to cut the cancer out. Comparisons began in earnest on the heels of the 9-11 attacks. On Sept. 26, 2001, New York Rabbi Ben Tzion Krasnianski wrote: "Terrorism is like a cancer, and you never make peace with cancer. Certain battles you don't have the luxury to grow tired of. Terrorism is a malignant tumor, and you don't make peace...
