Former Vice President Joe Biden is officially in the 2020 White House race and is already a frontrunner thanks to his undeniable name recognition. Justice Democrats, a group associated with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and who many credit with helping launch her political career, is among the grassroots progressives hoping to curb his momentum. Justice Democrats announce they'll oppose Joe Biden's candidacy. Only in the primary though. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas said in a recent appearance that he does not think religious beliefs interfere with a judge’s job, and criticized attempts by Democrats to impose “religious tests” on judicial nominees. Thomas, in remarks last week that were first reported by The Daily Caller, was asked about the 2017 confirmation hearing of Amy Coney Barrett where Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., told the Catholic: “The dogma lives loudly within you and that’s a concern.” He was asked if religious convictions should be taken into consideration when lawmakers were considering a judicial pick. “I thought we got away from...

In countless conversations over the past year, former Vice President Joe Biden, his advisers and his broad network of friends and family have openly discussed the vulnerabilities he would face if he ran for president. A voting record that is sometimes at odds with the Democratic Party’s leftward shift. His age. And the affectionate brand of politics that has made him beloved by many Democrats and a target of Republicans for years. What Biden likely didn’t expect was to be confronting those issues so fully before even launching a campaign. On Friday, Biden will make his first public appearance since...

Former vice president and likely 2020 presidential candidate, Joe Biden, attacked the United States’ “white man’s culture,” during an appearance at the Biden Courage Awards, which honors those working to combat sexual assault on college campuses. Biden said America’s racist culture is why Anita Hill wasn’t able to stop Clarence Thomas’ nomination to the Supreme Court. “A really notable woman, Anita Hill, professor, showed the courage of a lifetime talking about her experience being harassed

NEW YORK (AP) — Former Vice President Joe Biden condemned “a white man’s culture” as he lashed out at violence against women and, more specifically, lamented his role in the Supreme Court confirmation hearings that undermined Anita Hill’s credibility nearly three decades ago. Biden, a Democratic presidential prospect who often highlights his white working-class roots, said Hill, who is black, should not have been forced to face a panel of “a bunch of white guys” about her sexual harassment allegations against Clarence Thomas. “To this day I regret I couldn’t come up with a way to give her the kind...

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas broke a three year silence on the bench when he asked a question Wednesday during oral arguments in a case dealing with race discrimination and juror selection. The justices were hearing a case on whether a white Mississippi prosecutor excluded black jurors in several trials against Curtis Flowers, a black man convicted of murdering four people. Flowers argues the state violated his constitutional right and his conviction should be overturned. When Flowers’ lawyer finished her argument, Justice Thomas asked if Flower’s defense attorney had struck any jurors, to which the lawyer said yes. Justice Thomas...

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas is working behind the scenes to boost the prospects of Neomi Rao, one of his former law clerks, to serve on a powerful federal appeals court in Washington — speaking privately with at least two Republican senators as she faces a contentious confirmation fight. Sen. Josh Hawley (Mo.) who publicly questioned how Rao would rule on issues such as abortion before supporting her in a key vote Thursday, disclosed this week that he had called Thomas. The justice has also phoned Sen. Tim Scott (S.C.), a sometimes deciding voice on controversial nominees. “He called me...

In an unexpected speech shortly before the state Senate adjourned its 2019 session, Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax cautioned against “political lynchings without any due process” and said “the truth is on my side” in the sexual assault allegations he faces. Referencing Virginia’s history of slavery and lynchings of African-Americans, Fairfax told senators from the dais Sunday that Virginia needs to decide what the next 400 years of state history will look like. “If we go backwards in a rush to judgment, and we allow for political lynchings without any due process, any facts, any evidence being heard, then I think...

Professional journalism groups reacted with alarm after Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas released an opinion Tuesday urging the high court to reconsider a landmark freedom of the press decision called New York Times v. Sullivan. The Sullivan ruling generally shields reporters and news platforms from libel or defamation lawsuits provided they were acting in good faith. Though journalists believe that protection is essential, Justice Thomas said the high court was wrong to usurp the role of states in regulating libel. “[Sullivan] and the Court’s decisions extending it were policy-driven decisions masquerading as constitutional law,” Thomas’s opinion reads. “We should not...

There’s no inkling here from Jeffrey Toobin that Thomas is thinking of resigning, only that some conservatives are chattering about it strategically. In fact, to the extent that Toobin’s aware of Thomas’s own inclinations, they point towards him staying. But his argument is worth thinking about. Thomas is the oldest member of the Court’s conservative wing. If you’re worried about the White House changing hands in 2020, and you should be given that Trump’s ceiling on job approval seems to be in the low 40s, the price of Thomas passing on retirement now is potentially needing him to serve another...

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito temporarily halted a Louisiana abortion law late Friday which had been set to go into effect Monday. The law is halted through Thursday and Alito noted in his brief order that the Justices need time to review the filings in the case and the order “does not reflect any view regarding the merits of the petition for a writ of certiorari that applicants represent they will file.” The 2014 law requires doctors at abortion clinics to have admitting privileges at a local hospital within 30 miles of the clinic. The Center for Reproductive Rights petitioned...

WASHINGTON — Team Clinton on Tuesday made it clear to Vice President Joe Biden that it will push back hard if he jumps into the Democratic presidential race against her. Manhattan Assemblywoman Deborah Glick, a Clinton loyalist, sent the first warning volley by tweeting: “Has everyone forgotten & forgiven the @JoeBiden Anita Hill sexual harassment debacle? I’m with the most qualified woman in the race — Hillary.” It was a not-so-subtle reminder that Biden’s long legislative track record in the Senate — not to mention his tenure as veep — will be fair game if he decides to take on...

Students and alumni of the Savanna College of Art and Design (SCAD) are petitioning the school to remove Supreme Court Associate Justice Clarence Thomas’s name from a campus building. Created by SCAD alumna Sage Lucero, 22, the petition “Take a Sexual Predator’s Name Off of SCAD’s Building” has racked up more than 2,200 signatures as of Monday, and takes aim at the school’s Clarence Thomas Center for Historic Preservation. The building, Lucero told PJ Media, “should be renamed after Anita Hill instead.” In a Sunday interview, Lucero said she started the petition after watching Christine Blasey Ford testify against Brett...

We are in the midst of a cold civil war. The crux? Realizing politics is part of life, one side believes America is fundamentally a good country requiring some prudent improvements upon which reasonable minds may differ. On the other side, the Left, thinking politics is life, believes America is a hopelessly unjust nation requiring “fundamental transformation” and this is a point on which no reasonable minds can differ. The Kavanaugh confirmation evinces the political abyss between us; and the bathetic depths to which this divide drives the Left to “win.” Employing the subjective term “credible” for an accusation that...

After a day of wrenching testimony from Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford — who has accused him of sexual assault in high school — more Americans say they believe Ford's account over Kavanaugh's denials, according to an NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll released Wednesday. In choosing who is telling the truth, 45 percent said Ford is, up from 32 percent ahead of her Sept. 27 testimony. A third (33 percent) said Kavanaugh is the one telling the truth, up slightly from 26 percent before he testified but not as much of a rise as for Ford. The daylong...

Biden said the behavior of Republican members of the committee was “a degree of invective, blind rage, and brute partisanship that threatens not only the Senate and the Supreme Court — it threatens the basic faith in fairness and justice that binds this country together.” Calling Ford “courageous” and “credible” in detailing her allegations, Biden said she deserves to have the FBI conduct an investigation into the alleged incident.

Brett Kavanaugh’s opponents seem to have cooled a bit on their insistence that there must be a full FBI investigation into Christine Blasey Ford’s accusations before a confirmation vote can be put forward. But still, if you find anyone still insisting the FBI must investigate, please show them this clip of Joe Biden back during the Clarence Thomas hearings.

“Senator, I would like to start by saying unequivocally, uncategorically, that I deny each and every single allegation against me today that suggested in any way that I had conversations of a sexual nature or about pornographic material with Anita Hill, that I ever attempted to date her, that I ever had any personal sexual interest in her, or that I in any way ever harassed her. “A second, and I think more important point. I think that this today is a travesty. I think that it is disgusting. I think that this hearing should never occur in America. This...
