  • The 'Gun Lobby' and Dennis Burke's future (Gunwalker email: NRA "stooges"; "greedy gun shop owners")

The furor over Operation Fast and Furious has already put a shadow over the political future of prominent Arizona Democrat and former U.S. Attorney Dennis Burke, as POLITICO reported back in August when he resigned the prosecutor's post under pressure. That shadow grew significantly darker and longer on Friday with the release of internal Justice Department documents in which Burke excoriated the "Gun Lobby" (presumably, the National Rifle Association) as well as its "stooges," among whom he counted Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa). Here's one of Burke's e-mails on the subject, included in my story last night on the latest Fast and Furious document dump:...

Former Arizona U.S. Attorney Dennis Burke, who resigned in August, admitted late Tuesday that he leaked a document aimed at smearing Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agent John Dodson, an Operation Fast and Furious whistle-blower. “Dennis regrets his role in disclosing the memo but he’s a stand-up guy and is willing to take responsibility for what he did,” Chuck Rosenberg, Burke’s lawyer, said according to NPR. “It was absolutely not Dennis’s intent to retaliate against Special Agent Dodson or anyone else for the information they provided Congress.” Rosenberg claims Burke is cooperating with congressional investigators.

Rep. Darrell Issa, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, sent a subpoena Wednesday to Attorney General Eric Holder as part of his investigation into the gun trafficking operation known as "Fast and Furious." "Top Justice Department officials, including Attorney General Holder, know more about Operation Fast and Furious than they have publicly acknowledged," the California Republican said in a statement. "The documents this subpoena demands will provide answers to questions that Justice officials have tried to avoid since this investigation began eight months ago. It's time we know the whole truth." The subpoena seeks, among other things,...
  • Prison awaits former Fast and Furious US Attorney Dennis Burke Part 2

As White House and Department of Justice architects of Fast and Furious were frankly counting on their Gunwalking scheme to end in murder, it is perhaps ironic that it was the December 15th shooting death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry which rang down the curtain on their enterprise, led Dennis Burke to his final criminal misadventures and brought the Operation into public view. Burke’s office had spent a year making certain ATF efforts in Fast and Furious would come to naught. But now an American agent was dead and it was imperative no connection be made between that crime...
  • Fast & Furious: Politico Writer Concerned About Political Future of Disgraced U.S. Attorney

The U.S. Attorney for Arizona resigns in disgrace this week and Politico writer Josh Gerstein wrings his hands in a show of great concern over the future political viability of this Democrat. First a little background from Michelle Malkin in NewsBusters about  U.S. Attorney Dennis Burke of Operation Fast and Furious notoriety: There's been only one visible Fast and Furious resignation: U.S. Attorney Dennis Burke in Phoenix, who quietly stepped down on Tuesday. One of his last acts? Opposing the request of murdered Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry's family to qualify as crime victims in a court case against the...
  • More Fallout Expected Over Botched Gun Sting

The botched sting operation known as Operation Fast And Furious has claimed the careers of at least three Justice Department officials, with Republican lawmakers expecting even more fallout to come. The operation, run out of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives field office in Phoenix, allowed guns to knowingly fall into the hands of violent criminals in Mexico. A congressional investigation into the operation led by House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., and Senate Judiciary ranking member Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, is examining how high up within the administration the program was known about and authorized....

Apparently, there's a video of (now) former US Atty Dennis Burke's testimony before Congressional investigators where he cries and pukes like a little girl. Probably not relishing the thought of a "regime change" in a years time, followed by the inevitable Indictments...Burke should be ashamed to be prosecuting Citizens for real, or contrived violations of Federal Gun Law while KNOWING that Agents of the ATF and other agencies were doing WORSE! Does one have to be a scummy hypocrite to be a US Atty? This commentator has no idea. I'd sure love to see that video tho.

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration on Tuesday replaced two top Justice Department officials associated with an ill-fated investigation into a gun-trafficking network in Arizona that has been at the center of a political conflagration. Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. announced the resignation of the United States attorney in Phoenix, Dennis K. Burke, and the reassignment of the acting director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Kenneth E. Melson. The two officials became the highest-profile political casualties yet in the fallout from a disputed effort to take down a weapons-smuggling ring based in Arizona and linked to...
