An interesting thing is happening right now in America's industrial heartland. Manufacturers are adding new workers at a brisk pace. And it's happening right in front of the very pundits and free-trade economists who predicted economic catastrophe over the past year. Simply put, President Donald Trump's tariffs are working. U.S. manufacturing employment has now shown year-on-year growth of more than 250,000 employees for six consecutive months. That's the largest and most sustained manufacturing job growth since 1998. In fact, the U.S. added 32,000 manufacturing jobs in October alone, for a total of 296,000 new factory jobs since October 2017. Overall,...

Panelists at the recent Quant Conference in London say you’re unquestionably on the right track. “It's super-exciting to be a quant in 2018-2019,” said one panelist (a hedge fund researcher who formerly worked for a large U.S. bank). “Everyone is hiring.” Quants’ enthusiasm for being quants might be dismissed as self-love. Except, they're not the only ones in the zone. Goldman Sachs has proclaimed its pursuit of strats (its own personal brand of quant technologists), while at another conference the week before, the head of recruitment...

In a tight job market, some employers are making job offers after a single phone interview, The Wall Street Journal reported. The tactic is one of many ways companies are trying to attract workers amid a nationwide labor shortage. Some employees who were offered jobs after one phone call wondered if it was a red flag or a scam. Up against a tight job market, some employers are making job offers after a single phone interview, The Wall Street Journal reported. This strategy is being seen mainly for seasonal jobs at retail companies such as Macy's and Bath & Body...

The average American farmer is 58 years old, according to the 2012 Census of Agriculture.
