Cdl. Burke: ‘Synodality’ suggests some kind of ‘new church’ where pope’s authority is destroyed LIMERICK, Ireland, (LifeSiteNews) – Cardinal Raymond Burke has come out criticizing the concept of “synodality” that was barely discussed during the recently concluded “Youth Synod,” but, nevertheless, found its way into the final document, surprising many of the Synod Fathers. “It’s become like a slogan, meant to suggest some kind of new church which is democratic and in which the authority of the Roman Pontiff is relativized and diminished—if not destroyed,” said Cardinal Burke in an exclusive interview with LifeSiteNews. “This is typical of a...

THIS is the secret African island inhabited by super aggressive "monster'" chimps all freed from a US testing laboratory. The apes -who are infected with contagious diseases- were abandoned on the Liberian river island after being released by their captors. The jungle wilderness - known to locals as ‘Monkey Island’ - is now home to more than 60 chimps who are notoriously protective of its shores. Many of the animals are said to be "super aggressive"and those living nearby are terrified to go there for fear of being attacked. Only a select few locals - who regularly take the apes...

A black student blamed his “bottled up anger” for racist, threatening graffiti he admitted to scrawling in a bathroom on a Maryland college campus, according to a police report. Baltimore County police on Monday filed hate crime charges against 21-year-old Fynn Arthur, a Brunswick, Maine, resident who was enrolled as a student at Goucher College in Towson. Police arrested Arthur last Thursday on misdemeanor charges of malicious destruction of property. He was released from custody after a court hearing last Friday. State’s Attorney Scott Shellenberger said his office subsequently recommended the additional charges, which also are misdemeanors. “We felt that...

A so-called "Trump effect" is damaging global progress on climate change by harming international diplomacy, according to a report published Monday. The report from the Institute of International and European Affairs (IIEA) considered the impact President Donald Trump was having on the objectives of the Paris Agreement. Drafted in 2015, the agreement set out targets for international economies to work towards in order to reduce carbon emissions. Joseph Curtin, senior fellow at the IIEA and the author of the report, said the Trump administration's policies were stalling progress towards those targets. "The 'Trump effect' has created a powerful countervailing force...

Andrew Wheeler, the former coal lobbyist who is now acting administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, was a "driving force" behind the agenda of Sen. James Inhofe, who called climate change a "hoax," according to people familiar with Wheeler's work for the senator. President Donald Trump has said he intends to nominate Wheeler as the head of the EPA, and in the past five months as acting administrator, Wheeler has moved aggressively to roll back key environmental regulations, prompting critics and environmentalists to say he is fast confirming their worst fears for the agency's future. Wheeler moved to the EPA'S...

Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez emphasized need to ‘transform our energy system’ but did not discuss how to pursue it. A star-studded progressive town hall on climate change drew thousands of viewers online and hundreds in person - but offered little insight into how the US left might overcome Republican opposition and lay the groundwork to limit rising temperatures. The Vermont senator Bernie Sanders, a potential 2020 presidential candidate, and Democratic socialist congresswoman-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who campaigned on a “Green New Deal”, elicited cheers with promises of an economic boom from massive investment in renewable power. “What we are trying...

France’s violent Yellow Vest protests are now about many domestic concerns, but it’s no accident that the trigger was a fuel-tax hike. Nothing reveals the disconnect between ordinary voters and an aloof political class more than carbon taxation. The fault line runs between anti-carbon policies and economic growth, and France is a test for the political future of emissions restrictions. France already is a relatively low-carbon economy, with per-capita emissions half Germany’s as of 2014. French governments have nonetheless pursued an “ecological transition” to further squeeze carbon emissions from every corner of the French economy. The results are visible in...

France suspends controversial fuel tax after weeks of unrest By James McAuley December 4 at 6:40 AM PARIS — French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe announced Tuesday that the French government would temporarily suspend the controversial carbon tax plan that triggered weeks of often violent protests around the country. To help curb climate change, the government had proposed a slew of new carbon taxes that were slated to take effect in January 2019 and were designed to wean consumers off diesel and other polluting fuels and to favor electric cars. But the price hikes those taxes represented triggered a wave of...

One of France’s most revered monuments, the Arc de Triomphe, was stormed and vandalised on Saturday during the 'Yellow Vest' demonstrations, in one of the worst instances of unrest Paris has seen since the protests and riots of 1968. The interior of the Arc de Triomphe, the 19th-century arch that towers over the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the western end of Champs Elysées, was ransacked. The statue of the Marianne, the symbol of the French republic, in display at the entrance of the Arc de Triomphe museum was smashed. A video shared on Facebook shows most of the...

For some reason, students at Goucher College in Towson, Maryland are drawing a perverse conclusion from the arrest of a black student there for faking a hate crime with racist graffiti. The U.K. Daily Mail reports: Fynn Ajani Arthur, a 21-year-old from Brunswick, Maine, was charged with two counts of malicious destruction of property on Thursday night in Baltimore County. RUSH: So I’m watching CNN this morning, I have it on, all of a sudden I look up and I see Christine Todd Whitman. Christine Todd Whitman, the former Republican governor of New Jersey and quintessential Republican establishment type, RINO, if you will, right out of the McCain wing of the party. You know what she’s talking about? The need for serious climate change action. She’s quoting from the Trump administration climate change report which, for about the gazillionth time now in the last 30 years, warns us that we only have 10 years left to address these dire circumstances...

United Nations (U.N.) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Thursday...“I think that it is clear to me that the world is more polarized. We have more and more nationalist approaches being popular and winning election or having strong election results,” Guterres said. “We see the trust between public opinions and institutions — governments, political establishments but also International organization … being eroded.”

WASHINGTON – Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into President Trump’s efforts to build a skyscraper in Moscow has led him to ask questions about the role two of the president’s children played in attempting to secure a Russian real estate deal, sources tell Yahoo News. Mueller’s interest in the Trump family real estate company’s plans for a skyscraper in Russia was confirmed on Thursday when Michael Cohen, the president’s former attorney and fixer, pleaded guilty to lying to Congress about the proposed deal. In charging documents, Mueller said Cohen falsely claimed that the effort to build a Trump Tower Moscow...

Epic Fail: Special counsel Robert Mueller has spent a year-and-a-half and $30-plus million attempting to “prove” that POTUS Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign “colluded” with Mother Russia to “steal the election” from Hillary Clinton, but he’s come up empty-handed. So now, he’s going after Trump associates and allies like Dr. Jerome Corsi and Paul Manafort for ‘lying’ to investigators in order to give the impression that collusion occurred but he just couldn’t prove it. That’s what former federal prosecutor Joe diGenova thinks, and he said as much Wednesday evening during an appearance on Fox News‘ “The Ingraham Angle.” The “original purpose”...

A report out of the University of Alaska Anchorage estimates some of the most certain consequences of climate change in Alaska will cost the state between $340 and $700 million per year over the next three to five decades. That’s “a significant, but relatively modest net economic effect for Alaska as a whole,” the report notes. But co-author Matthew Berman, a professor of economics at UAA’s Institute of Social and Economic Research, said the dollar figures don’t capture the large disparity between climate change’s cost to urban and rural Alaska. But Berman cautioned that the amount the report predicts climate...

It would be doable, but would it be wise? Researchers say they’ve looked into how hard it would be to spray chemicals into the atmosphere to block the sun and curb global warming — and it would be neither technically difficult nor too expensive. The researchers, in a new study, did not make any judgments about whether it should be done, but they did “show that a hypothetical deployment program starting 15 years from now, while both highly uncertain and ambitious, would be technically possible strictly from an engineering perspective,” said Gernot Wagner, research associate at Harvard’s School of Engineering...

The complex network of interdependencies between plants and animals multiplies the species at risk of extinction due to environmental change, according to a new study. Scientist Giovanni Strona, in collaboration with Professor Corey Bradshaw constructed 2000 "Virtual Earths," which they populated with thousands of plants and animals organized into a global system of inter-connected food-webs. They then subjected the virtual Earths to extreme trajectories of environmental change, consisting in either a "global warming," i.e. a linear, monotonic increase in temperature, or a "nuclear winter," i.e. a progressive cooling, such as that which could follow multiple nuclear detonations or an asteroid...
