Let's begin with a reminder that my position on partisan blame after horrific acts of violence has been quite clear and consistent.  I believe it's almost always grossly unfair, and a cheap political smear, to pin mass murder on mainstream ideological opponents, even by implication.  Leave it to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to make the least fair point in the dumbest and ugliest way possible.  Take it away, lady: Ocasio-Cortez: Trump's immigration rhetoric is "directly responsible" for El Paso mass shooting https://t.co/6jZPnAP9wx pic.twitter.com/vWiXGFLD42— The Hill (@thehill) August 6, 2019 Rep. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he expects his chamber will have the votes to pass a resolution blocking President Trump’s national emergency declaration, but an effort to override a presidential veto will fail in the House. “I think what is clear in the Senate is that there will be enough votes to pass the resolution of disapproval, which will then be vetoed by the president and then in all likelihood the veto will be upheld in the House,” McConnell said Monday. He said the Senate vote would happen before the lawmakers go on a one-week recess March 15.

Did you know the migrant caravan of thousands moving up from Central America through Mexico towards the American border doesn't exist? Well, if you believe the "facts first" CNN, that must be the case. You see, its political commentator Errol Louis declared on Tuesday morning's CNN Newsroom that the caravan was "imaginary."

In September, U.S. Customs and Border Protection will begin construction on President Trump’s infamous 130-mile wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. At times like these, the symbolism of barriers hits hard. It’s no surprise that on Saturday, attendees at Chicago’s Ruido Fest – a rock en español festival in the city’s Pilsen neighborhood – decided to stage a protest against a Home Depot branded booth that featured a mock wall installation. The activity invited festivalgoers to decorate tiles and glue them onto the wall as artists played sets across the grounds. In addition to the symbolism of the installation, protesters expressed...

President Janet Murguia described “La Raza” as an outdated term that did not resonate with its members. AP exclusively translates “Raza” as “the people” in its report. However, the term can also be interpreted as “the race,” which carries a suggestion of zero-sum ethnic conflict. Note: Asterisks ** are used for emphasis since bold and italics don't seem to be available. Deportations are a Bitter Pill I. Introduction Most of us empathize with illegal immigrants and understand why they would come. We think of illegals we’ve met or known personally – they’ve seemed like decent people and cost us little in the grand scheme of things. On most days, the sky isn’t falling. Counter-intuitively, these sentiments make the issue of immigration so existential, dangerous, and urgent. Like the free rider problem, the cost of an individual is trivial but in aggregate can cripple. Immigration’s impact...

Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry might have given Donald Trump a full-throated endorsement for president, but he is not so fond of the presumptive Republican nominee's plan to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexican border. In an exchange posted Monday with Snapchat’s Peter Hamby on the social network's political show, "Good Luck America," Perry shot down Trump's proposal. "I’m for Donald Trump, and he says we’re going to build a wall, the Mexicans are gonna pay for it," he said. Hamby then injected, "It’s not going to happen."

The GOP's 2008 presidential nominee, Sen. John McCain, says the 2016 campaign is like none other because candidates in both parties are tapping into the "frustration and anger" of voters.[snip] "You see a frustration and anger which then rejects the establishment," he added. "[Sen. Ted] Cruz has tapped into it, [Vermont Sen. Bernie] Sanders has tapped into it, [Donald] Trump…" "Anybody that says he can shoot somebody and still get elected, that's beyond any framework of politics that I've ever seen," the Arizona lawmaker said, USA Today reports.

Nearly 70,000 made the trek that year, seeking asylum from gang and cartel violence, and hoping for reunification with parents who had left them behind to establish better lives in the U.S. Ligsdenis Ochoa photographed shortly she arrived in the U.S. from Honduras in 2014. What appeared as any typical Wednesday noon at UCR's Bell Tower quickly became a large occasion as an audience of Highlanders were attracted to the center of campus to support Coming Out of the Shadows, an event hosted by the Undocumented Student Programs. San Francisco police officers dealing with a report of a stolen car ran the victim’s name for warrants, prompting the man to end up in the custody of federal immigration agents in what is being investigated as a possible breach of local sanctuary-city laws. After Pedro Figueroa-Zarceno, 31, was released from jail Wednesday after two months, and after he spoke at a news conference Friday, Police Chief Greg Suhr acknowledged that the longtime city resident never should have been in the hands of immigration agents.

Many Republican entertainers are clearly smitten with former reality TV star Donald Trump, but for conservative commentator Glenn beck, this makes no sense. Trump, a longtime crony capitalist, supports many liberal positions, including increased gun control and single-payer healthcare. ... Glenn Beck: Why Do Conservative Pundits Support Trump? Glenn Beck wants to stage a conservative intervention. The former Fox News host and prominent conservative commentator is confounded that so many Republican voters are attracted to Donald Trump. And Beck is particularly bewildered by the conservative pundits who are hooked on the bombastic real estate mogul. "Why are big name 'conservatives' supporting him?" Beck asked wrote in a Facebook post on Thursday. Beck went on to name names, calling out some of Trump's biggest boosters in conservative media: Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Michael Savage. "I am not talking...

The number of illegal immigrants in the United States totaled 11.3 million in 2014, outnumbering the 9.6 million Americans who were unemployed in the same year, according to data from Pew Research Center and the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). “An estimated 11.3 million unauthorized immigrants lived in the U.S. in 2014,” says a Pew report. “The new unauthorized immigrant total includes people who cross the border illegally as well as those who arrive with legal visas and remain in the U.S. after their visas expire.” Of those 11.3 illegal immigrants, 8.1 million are participating in the labor force. “Unauthorized...

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – All the high-profile violent crimes hitting the Albuquerque area may be helping gun sales. One local shop says they’ve seen a major uptick in sales in what’s usually the slowest time of the year and that they heard from a lot of people after the murder of Steven Gerecke. Omni Arms near Central and Juan Tabo typically sells about 30 guns a week in the summer. The store manager says in the week after police say Gerecke was killed in his own driveway by six teens on a crime spree, they sold around 50 guns. And they...

Ann Coulter and Geraldo Rivera clashed on Tuesday night over illegal immigration and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s controversial claim that Mexico is ”sending people that have lots of problems” to America. “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best,” Trump said when announcing his candidacy. “They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.” Coulter, who takes a hard line on illegal immigration, didn’t defend Trump directly but said she believes the government should be using...

The truth hurts, goes the old saying. Nowhere is that better illustrated than in the liberal media’s treatment of Donald Trump’s presidential announcement. Not to mention the reaction of Hillary Clinton. Mediaite is up in arms about Donald Trump, specifically his views on illegal immigration and Mexico. In his announcement speech Trump had the audacity to say this of illegal immigrants coming over the southern US border: “They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists and some, I assume, are good people.” Suffice to say, Mediaite did not approve. The site headlined a furious story by Matt Wilstein this way:...

MEXICO CITY – After Donald Trump's Mexico-bashing comments this week, Mexicans are engaging in a little Trump-bashing of their own. Artesan Dalton Avalos Ramirez created a Trump piñata after the outspoken mogul bashed Mexico on Tuesday during a speech when he announced he was running for president. During his kickoff speech, Trump accused Mexico of illegally sending drugs, crime and rapists across the border. Avalos Ramirez, who lives and works in Reynosa, Mexico said Mexicans on both sides of the border are quite angry at his comments and are embracing the new piñata gladly.
