It was in August that Disney CEO Bob Iger warned that ESPN suffered "some subscriber losses," but a regulatory filing late Wednesday indicates a fairly hefty number: 7 million subscribers in two years. Disney disclosed that its most profitable TV asset has 92 million subscribers, down from 95 million a year ago and down from 99 million the year before that.

I haven’t done the math, but just spitballing it, I’ve spent somewhere in the vicinity of 800+ hours watching “American Idol” over the past 13 seasons. Do you know what you can accomplish in 800 hours?! Okay, i’m terrible at math, but that’s more than a month of my life on the couch watching everyone from Kelly Clarkson to that “Pants on the Ground” guy, Phillip Phillips and everyone in between.Bottom line is this: I know “Idol,” and so I feel perfectly comfortable saying that next season should be the show’s swan song. After 20 percent audience dips for the...

The Rosie O’Donnell show was supposed to be the magnet that would draw big numbers of viewers to Oprah Winfrey’s OWN cable network — before it ended up a big flop. Insiders blame the failure of the show on a lack of support from the network, and a lack of experience on the part of Winfrey’s Harpo-based team doing anything other than a show built around Winfrey. “Initially, we had a lot of support,” says one show insider, who can’t be named because of a confidentiality agreement. “The first week we heard everything went well. But after the premiere week...

NBC affiliate WTWO in Terre Haute, Indiana, has become the first station to announce they will not be showing "The Book of Daniel.” "We expect other NBC affiliates will join WTWO in their decision,” said American Family Association (AFA) Chairman Donald E. Wildmon. He also said that NBC is having trouble finding sponsors for the show. AFA says it has been notified by several companies that they have no plans to sponsor the show. "It appears that NBC will be forced to fill the available ad spots with ‘distressed merchandise’ ads which are sold at pennies on the dollar of...
  • Call CNN and complain

I just got off the phone with viewer response area at CNN. The poor girl said she has been taking many calls of complaint about CNN not reporting the Kerry affair story. She said they are still "researching" this story. I have called CNN many times and am usually treated badly. I was ready for a fight but this poor girl was the B team. I really think they are getting flooded with complaints and she was put on duty to field the overflow of calls. Supposedly CNN logs all complaints and presents them to management (I suspect the circular...
